Despite the happy feeling from the brews I'm a little concerned about my efficiency and boil off .... So it's an Amber ale and I'm guessing my crush was too course...

I have one of those extendable racking canes... I always rack to secondary before cold crashing... Due to a lack of equipment and so I can fit it in the fridge I use the water containers that I buy my water in for brewing... Anyway long and short of it I split 5 gallons into two 3 gallon water...

    Water PH

Thanks for all the advice, brewing tomorrow I've decided based on some of the advice above to not use the 5.2 just stick to my normal mashing Procedure, I'll use the strips to get an idea what's going on... See how the first batch goes... Read up on water chemistry and take it from there...

    Water PH

Hi All doing my first all grain on Saturday, moving on from PM using a cooler with SS braid. Most of my PM batches have turned out good the only issue is chill haze even with batches that I've used gelatin on and cold crash, always get good hot n cold break. So I reckon the only thing left is...

    Will this work

Living in a tropical climate where the outside temp is 32 degrees centigrade is always a challenge to keep fermenting temps as close to optimum. Normally I keep the fermenting bin in a polystyrene box with as many frozen water bottles as possible and change them out every 12 hours... This keeps...

General kit advice and seeking words of wisdom

As to your question on Sugars and DME... dextrose I believe is fully fermentable so it gives you quite a dry thin beer especially in a Kit and Kilo recipe... I reckon but may be wrong that Dry Malt Extract doesn't fully ferment out so you get a fuller bodied beer and better head retention.. I...

General kit advice and seeking words of wisdom

Obviously should have said to mix kit after the boil!! Don't boil hopped extract.... I learnt all the basics from watching U tube clips check out Craig's tube on there it's really great for beginners and he's always so calm when brewing!! Steeping grains is easy as... Get a mashing bag or you...

    Maximising output

Thanks guys, think ill scale it up... on the Hops Beersmith is telling me I don't need to increase the hops to get the same IBU (17 for a scotish 70 shilling) is that right even though the water volume is increasing! oh and Whirflock split one tablet between the two pots or one each?

    Maximising output

Looking for some advice.... My situation is a little strange... Ex Pat in Asia who got sick of drinking the local brew which costs 5 US dollars for a 660ml bottle or paying up to 9 bucks for a imported English or German bitter not even 500ml!! (I'm British by the way!) So I decided to restart...

    Help... It just wont carbonate

OK so it is carbonating just no where near as much as I expect..... I have brewed 3 PM batches after doing a few kit and extract batches. The first PM batch carbed well after 10 days or so. First batch was 100g of corn sugar dissolved in boiling water added in the bottling bucket in the standard...
