    mobile home brewing

Sounds like an Anvil Foundry 6.5 is for you. Small batch, manageable mash when running 120 VAC. I like my Foundry 10.5, and I am comfortable recommending the little brother.

    Moldy Bag Salvageable?

You might end up with a more stained bag, but a good dose of Iodaphore kills a wide spectrum of nasty stuff. Maybe follow up with an exposure to bleach and you should be good to go. Remember grain comes with all kinds of spores and micro a bad stuff. The stuff that made your bag moldy in the...

Anvil Crucible or SS Brewtech Chrinical

Did you check Delta Brewing Systems conicals? They have a 4 and 8 gallon model. Currently the 8 gallon is sold out and they do not display a price. I forget the price, but it was very budget friendly.

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

There are bugs in most everything you eat. The USDA regulations for unacceptable foreign material (bug, dirt, feces, etc) content are surprisingly high. You will be fine. You brewed it, you drink it, you keep your mouth shut when sharing it.

    SSR burnout

Heat sink grease, not epoxy. There are also pads you can buy that are supposed to be superior to heat sink grease.

    SSR burnout

Looking at the photo in the OP. Was the SSR mounted on heatsink? Hard to say for sure one way or the other. If his new SSR is not properly installed, it will eventually fail as well. Invest in a heatsink, an oversized heat sink because you can never have to much cooling.

    SSR burnout

Am I reading that right? $117 for a SSR. Seems awfully steep. Auber has a 40 amp relay for $16.45. Add a Heatsink for $20.00. I have never heard of the Auber private label SSR suffering quality issues.

How do you save your cooling water?

I push Straight tap water through my immersion chiller until it drops to about 100°. Then I switch and pump ice water through my IM using a $25.00 bilge pump. I try to collect the exhaust water and use it on my grass and plants. In the rainy season, this is not worth the effort.

    Making My Water Report Myself?

I get 10 gallons of bulk RO water at Whole Foods for 39¢ per gallon. Solves all my water problems. Otherwise, a report from Ward Labs at $30.00 is (IMHO) a good deal.

    SSR burnout

I admit I am a cheap SOB. But when it comes to my brewing, I tend to over build. 1) I value my time, I like to build something one time, repair and replace zero times. 2) It is a protection against a brew day getting interrupted or put and out canceled do to equipment failure When it comes to...

    Yeast sachet in boiling water

If you have a second sachet of yeast that has not been exposed to boiling temperatures. If not, lesson learned about keeping some backup around. How long before you can get some new yeast? If you can pitch some fresh, not poached, yeast during a long lunch time, I would do that. If you are a...

    Control Panel Build help (gas)

+1 Trying to untangle that drawing against what was built, but able to look at the panel in it's built state. Your are in a very difficult spot. I do not know how to tell you where to start. Either you start educating yourself on basic electronics, or get somebody (local, who can look at the...

How do YOU try to reduce your water usage?

Only if you do not flush. As we used to say during one of California's water shortages. If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down.

Brewtroller - just purchased, problems with boil settings

Good to hear it is working out for you. Manuals are a good thing.

    Klarstein XXL brewing system

All in one electric brewing is nice and easy. I cannot imagine what would get me to go back to gas, fire and multiple vessels. Considering your situation, the Klarstein looks like the way to go. If you are comfortable with the price, quality and value.

    Klarstein XXL brewing system

I used to do propane BIAB. Now I have Blichmann Brewcommander based BIAB system and a Anvil Foundry 10.5. The foundry is a nice product. The biggest difference is with propane, the temperature control is more annoying. Hit and miss, easy to over shoot, etc. With propane BIAB, I found best...

Brewtroller - just purchased, problems with boil settings

Shut down Brewtroller Locate the folder where config.h is stored. Right click on the file. When the window pops open, find "Open With...". Select to open with notepad application. When the file opens, be careful to not change anything. Scroll to Line 270, put you cursor into place and change...

    Klarstein XXL brewing system

What happens if a friend sends your friend in USA sends you a birthday present? Do you pay tariffs and all that jazz on a box? If so, it might be worth it to pay a tariff on a $75.00 an Auber PID. i am going to think that you can get heatsinks, SSR, switches, DIN rails, project boxes, etc in...

    Pretzels in the Mash

How about a basic neutral grain bill as the backbone. Look up pretzel recipes and draw the ingredients that make sense. Do a decoction mash style mash. Not in the name of stepping up your mash. Pull some mash and boil the decoction to induce malliard properties. Try to duplicate the crunchy...

    Equipment Profile Mash Efficiency Influencers

In my mind there is only one efficiency. Mash (pre-boil) conversion efficiency. How much wort you have at a measured gravity. Divide that to the hypothetical what if you got "perfect" 100% efficiency. The rest is not really efficiency, IMHO. It is knowing where and how much wort your brew rig...
