    All in one system sparging

I did a 2 gallon sparge for a 5.5 gallon batch (as described in post #11) and gained 10 points compared to my previous 2 vessel KRIMS set up which was a full volume mash. Clocked in @ 78% BH efficiency yesterday. FYI, I give the bag a decent, but not a crushing squeeze, my mill is set to .025...

    Hop cone…

Not sure I agree with that. When cleaning my kettle and flushing/back flushing my plate chiller, I could see the expelled hop debris circle in the middle immediately upon starting the whirlpool.

    Hop cone…

I stopped using my plate chiller and 2 vessel setup… went BIAB to simplify my brew day and put my Jaded Hydra IC back into service to help lighten the cleanup. Today was my first brew on the new system and, because I could, I decided to throw the whirlpool hops in commando. When the kettle was...

    Ebiab design questions

Like you, I went from an overly complicated 2 vessel K-RIMS (first picture) to my home built BIAB setup based on Bobby’s Brewhardware design. Made good use of my old 10 gallon Megapot that was collecting dust in the basement. I modified the Auber Cube to compliment my new system. I ditched...

    Conical fermenters

I agree with all the advantages mentioned above regarding stainless conicals (pressure fermentation, yeast harvesting, closed transfers, dry hopping with minimal o2 infiltration, etc.) I've had my Spike CF-5 for several years now with zero complaints. The only downside for me is not being able...

    All in one system sparging

I heat the full volume of water once. When I reach my strike temperature, I simply pour off a couple of gallons into the cooler before adding the grains.

    All in one system sparging

From what I’ve read, the sparge water doesn’t necessarily need to be 168 degrees to wash off residual sugars. I just transitioned to a BIAB setup to shorten and simplify my brew day and plan to pour off 2 gallons of my strike water (approximately 165 degrees) into a 3.5 gallon Igloo cooler...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I use this Spunding Valve to ferment under pressure and purge my kegs with the fermentation Co2. Works great.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I set mine up with the sample valve and the thermo-well switched. Clean samples.

floating diptube issues: problems, causes, fixes, solutions, etc...

I have a couple of the (stock) floating dip tubes from Moorbeer that I use in smaller, 2.5 gallon kegs. The only time I had an issue was when I attached the tubing in such a way where the natural bend of the silicone did not curve towards the kegs center. Now I always make sure the float ball...

    BIAB-RIMS concept setup

Thanks! I've got a surplus of cam lock fittings from my prior 2 vessel setup. I actually like the cam locks better but for the recirculation portion, that will be on and off more often that the whirlpool side, the ball locks seemed the likely choice.

There has to be a better way to drain BIAB over a kettle at mashout without using a hoist

I just transitioned to BIAB, having customized my old 10 gallon MegaPot into the Bobby’s Brewhardware design. Since room will be tight in the kettle for 5-6 gallon batches, my plan is to pull 2-3 gallons of “strike temp” water into a 3 gallon cooler for sparging. After the mash, hoist the bag...

Dry yeast manufacturers… could you please up the 11g packet size?

Dry yeast manufacturers… could you please up the 11g packet size?

I’m sure increased revenue is a factor as some are likely pitching 1+ packets for a 5-6 gallon batch. I’d like to see dry yeast manufacturers increase the single packet size to 15-18 grams. Most of my beers are around 1.065 OG and all dry yeast calculators say I need 14-16 grams. I’ve always...

    BIAB-RIMS concept setup

Looks interesting. As I've aged, I'm looking to simplify my brew days. After a bout with the Covid over the holidays, I finally finished up my new BIAB rig based on the Brewhardware, Bobby_M design. My previous 2 kettle rims setup was nice to look at and kept me focused but I have to say it...

Pressure Transfer - Equalize Between Two Corny Kegs?

I pressure ferment @ 8-10psi and use the fermentation gas to purge my 2, 2.5 gallon kegs. Once fermentation is complete, I disconnect the keys from the system while I wait to transfer. When ready, I purge a jumper from my still pressurized conical to the kegs gas post to equalize pressure...

    Ebiab design questions

Thanks Bobby… I’m thinking seriously about selling my entire 2 vessel, KRIMS system and transition to a BIAB setup to work in a smaller space. I really like how you’ve set things up with the multifunction recirculation/whirlpool.

    Ebiab design questions

Hi Bobby… thinking about transitioning to a single vessel BIAB and plan to model it based on your video. Could you by chance post a photo of your new tee/valve setup mentioned above for the recirculation/whirlpool? Thanks.
