Looking to build a wind shield -- metal type? bending? stability?

It looks like a window well. It's used around basement windows that are below grade.

Polyester (PET) braid in a mash tun

Many of the flexible sink & toilet water supply lines carried by Home Depot use the plastic braid instead of stainless steel. If you have a store nearby you could get one without paying the shipping charge.

    oxygen regulators anyone?

Just call your doctor's office and tell them what you are doing. Most will not mind writing a prescription, especially if they like craft brews :). Worst case buy the fittings and make an adapter to go to a welding style oxygen cylinder. I hate to see good regulators go to waste.

    Plastic Beer Crates

I don't know what a European plastic crate is but I use the plastic dish racks used in commercial kitchens to run glasses through a commercial dish washer.

    Larger Bottles

When I carbonated in the bottle I would do at least one plastic PET bottle so you can feel when the bottle gets rock hard. I used the 1 liter amber bottles from Mr. Beer. They are reuseable and large enough to really cut down on the bottling chore. I have also seen many people use soda...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I always inert when I transfer beer whether it is going into a secondary or into a keg. It is probably not needed if you plan on drinking your beer within 6 months but it can not hurt. I have experimented with inerting bottles prior to filling or not and I have not been able to notice a...

Well....I am officially a hop farmer

You seem to be getting the growing under control. What are your plans for harvesting and pelletizing/packaging? I just grow a few bines at home and seen the large scale mechanized harvesting, picking and sorting up in the NorthWet. I am curious how harvesting is handled on a smaller...

How to make Hop Plugs or Hop Pellets

I use a Food Saver to vacuum pack my hops wich helps cut down on the space required for storage but early on I made the mistake of just letting the machine do it's thing. The packs vacuum down into odd shapes that waste a lot of space. Now I press the bag flat as the vacuum is being drawn and...

Will Star San Damage My Bucket....?

My sanitizing bucket always has Star San in it. I make a fresh batch before bottling or brewing and keep what's left over in the bucket just in case. Each brew day I dump out the bucket, wash and make up a new batch of sanitizer. I don't think my bucket has been dry in 3 months and it shows...

    Bine Propagation

I have reasonable success propogating from cuttings. I take a cutting about 6-10" long and on the cut end I make scratches in the stem for about the first 1/2" and then promptly dip the scratched end in rooting hormone. I then plant it in moist potting soil. Some varieties do better than...

Starting to get ready, Need imput

I am not a follower of the "cut it down" to harvest method. Here in NC my hops kept producing and producing and never really stopped until we started getting frost at night. If I had cut the bine down when the first crop was ready I would have lost 1/2 my production. I used 16ft long 6x6...

    CO2 Problems

Your CO2 bottle will drop considerably in pressure if you put it in your keggerator. Temperature really affects CO2 which is why the cylinders are filled by weight. When filled and really cold (-50f) they may read only read 100 psi. At room temp they are 700-800 psi and if you leave it...

    some bottles weaker than others?

Another word of caution about bottles from a bar. Look inside and toss the ones with cigarette butts inside.

    btu generated during fermentation?

Does anyone know how many btu is generated when fermenting an average gravity ale? I know there are many variables but I'm looking for a general number. How much heat needs to be removed from the fermentor during active fermentation to hold a stable temperature?

    FREE Cascade hops rhizomes

Sorry, all of the hops have found a new home. Sunday 11/15 9:55pm I have done some gardening today and I have two bags of Cascade rhizomes that need a new home ASAP. They will go out in tomorrow's (Monday 11/16) mail. These bines came from a cutting I started this spring. It grew in a...

Here is a new one. Where is she? It is not nearly as exotic as the previous locations and the design on the back wall provides another clue.

    New Toy

I think you have two choices. You either put in a big block with a blower sticking through the hood, tub out the rear end and keep her barely street legal or you put in a thump'n sound system, barbeque grill and a four tap keg system in back.
