I want to buy rhizomes now

I can understand wanting to get your oder in now. Two years ago I wanted hops and I could not find anyone to take my order. When the season opened up I was slammed at work and totally forgot until they were sold out. Early this year (2009) I pre-ordered with Thyme Garden, the only place I...

How to make Hop Plugs or Hop Pellets

I assume you would need to vacuum or inert gas package the plugs to protect them from oxidation just like leaf & pellet hops.

    NanoBrewery build

So is tomorrow going to be your opening day or are you taking the holiday off? I'm dying to hear how your new business takes off. The good news is with everything I read about the bad economy craft brewing is one of the few industries that is still growing. It looks like you picked a good...

Can Keg Leak through Ball Locks?

Anywhere there is a piece that can be removed or where there is an O ring there is a potential leak point. Just for fun I counted 9 easy places a keg can leak either beer or CO2. poppet valve inlet & outlet poppet housing to keg inlet & outlet keg to line connections inlet & outlet...

Keg to bottle (using Beergun) issues

I've had that problem trying to bottle home made root beer. In between bottles I could see the soda turning to foam in the line. Since it's winter put on a coat & hat and try your bottling outside on a cold evening/morning. It's an easy way to keep the beer line and bottles cold while...

    Kegerator conversion question

Make sure you have the shank to beer line fittings (tailpiece, nut, washer).

Wildwest's brew lean-to (my almost dream build)

Not joking. It sounds like you are being very fair with your neighbor. I understand that you have already spoken with him/her about the damage his animals are doing to your house. Going to the expense of purchasing a live trap is being extremely fair and going to the extreme to...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Don't worry, it's not really an addiction until you add on to the house or build a totally separate brew shed.

    Line length and all that.

My local Lowes only stocks the thin wall tubing. The tubing I bought from Keg Connection had a much thicker wall, but in a pinch I'm sure the thinner wall stuff would work. It's not under that much pressure (famous last words?).

    co2 tank question

In the future you will also pay attention to the difference in weight between a full and empty tank. It's harder to notice on the smaller cylinders but on a 20lb tank you can immediatley tell if there is the extra 20lb in there. Glad to hear they exchanged your dead tank without a hassle.

    c02 tank questions-- 5 or 10 lbs?

I'm sold on 20lb tanks. I live in the boonies so exchanging or filling is a real PITA and a 20lb is almost the same cost to fill as a 5 or 10lb. My welding gas supplier keeps 20lb tanks on his truck all the time so I don't have to call ahead to have them throw on a baby tank for the exchange...

    Sluggish S-04 - temperature?

I recently dropped the temp on my brew fridge from 68 to 67f and it seems that S-04 takes about 12 hours longer to get started.

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Don't worry too much about the tightness of the lid. Even when tightly screwed down it is not a gas tight seal. CO2 is heavier than air so it will sit inside the Mr. Beer keg unless it is disturbed.

    Compressor motor for Barley crusher?

I'm betting the motor turns 1'800 rpm though 3'600 is a possibility. I think the motor will be 1'800 because I'm guessing that is a better speed for the air compressor.

    BBQ Build

Nice project. I can't beleive you were able to find that much channel for little or no cost. That was a great score.

Using PEX tubing for Mash Tun manifold?

The only thing I don't like about PEX is that it grows in length as it gets hot. It is not a big issue if using short pieces. If using longer sections putting a loop or a "hump" in the line allows it to grow & shrink without putting strain on your fittings. I also like PEX because it...

    Leaf hops

I have a bazooka screen on my boil pot and anything more than 3/4 ounce of leaf hops cloggs it up pretty good. I've learned to keep a long sterilized spoon handy. Scraping back and forth along the screen keeps it flowing. How much hops does it take to clogg a stainless scrubby?

How long will star stan keep when used?

What causes Star San to cloud? Mine turns cloudy within 5 minutes? I make a new batch every time I use some but I becoming concerned that something in my water is neutralizing it.

    Regulating mash temperature...

I use a cooler for mashing and Beer Smith to calculate my temperatures and things work quite well, especially when I pre-heat my mashtun. Now that winter has arrived I do loose a bit more heat during the mash but a quick splash of boiling water half way through the mash brings the temp back...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Yes, all the Mr. Beer recipes use the same yeast. It is a good, reliable ale yeast that can make tasty beer. Many beer styles require a specific yeast to properly make that style so technically they cannot be made with Mr. Beer yeast.
