    NanoBrewery build

I saw your post in another section about buying a new kettle. I was wondering if you were upsizing a bit.

How do you exhaust your boil kettle

The commercial breweries I've visited has a lip or ring on the inside of the vent hood & ducting. As the condensation rolls down the sides it's caught by the lip and routed to a drain.

    Changing Burner Pressure?

I brew using a two burner camp stove. The burners are rated for 60k btu and it came with a traditional gas grill 10in/hg regulator. The burners look identical to the Bayou Classic ( http://bayouclassicdepot.com/bg12_cast_iron_burner.htm.htm ). My house is plumbed for propane and I have 2psi...

Heat up my fridge so I can cool it off?

I use an old style heating pad that does not have the auto off feature. My fermentation fridge is located in an unheated garage and the heating pad is able to keep a large side-by-side fridge at whatever temp I desire when the garge get's into the low 40's. I have a dual output Love controller...

    Used Grain as Mulch

Composted spent grains would be great but just dumping your spent grains around your hops might not be such a good idea. Deer, groundhogs and opossum love to visit my compost pile after brew day.

    Breaking point of bottles- carbonation

Generally I'd say your average beer bottle can take it but like everything there are no absolutes. Hold several bottles up to the light and you will see the glass vary in thickness. The higher pressure you run the greater your chance of finding that 1 in 100 weak bottle. If carbing in the...

Rhizomes or Growing Tips Near DC?

Don't write off the first year. In my first season I had great production from Cascade, Magnum and Nugget. Cascade seems to grow well for everyone so that would be a safe one to start with.

    US-05 Fan Club

Has anyone done a good, detailed comparison between S-04 and S-05? I've used S-05 quite a bit and love it but I don't have nearly as much experience with 04.

    Hops Soil and Watering

I forgot to mention that the Cascade I started in a pot with 16-18" deep soil had several large roots growing out the bottom of the pot and into the ground by the end of the season. After seeing that I knew why it was doing so well. Prior to that I did not know how the pot could contain enough...

Perhaps a Beer Gun/Counter Pressure alternative

The Beer Gun mostly works but there are two things I don't like: It is quite slow. They rely on a long small diameter supply tube, a really tiny beer line down into the bottle and running the keg at very low pressure to prevent foaming. Filling a bottle takes at least twice as long+ as...

    My hops growing plan

I have two bines growing outside the back porch of my office. They go vertical for 8' and then horizontal for another 8-10'. The vertical was no problem but I had to train the bines once they got to the horizontal since they always wanted to go vertical. They still grew and produced well. I...

    Hops Soil and Watering

I grow mine in 75% composted cow maneure, 25% my native crappy soil. The bines did very well with the very organic soil. I started one Cascade in a pot and it did very well on the normal Miracle Grow brand potting soil and it would go several days between waterings. Despite everyone saying...

I plumbed my brew rig into the houses propane (fed by a 1'000 gallon tank) after running out one time.

What's the hydro test date on your cheap cylinders. You may have to pay extra when you exchange them if they are out of date.

How much care do hops need?

I would plant them in the largest pots you can find so you can take them with you in August. How much watering they will need depends on the soil you use. With store bought potting soil I had to water every other day but ones planted in some home made compost which was almost 100% organic...
