    New hops!

I got a soapy taste from a FF smash. Anybody else get that? It was one of my first batches so there were several variables but I haven't had the soap flavor problem using the same equipment and process since. I agree the aroma is awesome, I'll have to try it again after I use up the six...

    Munich AG recipe

I am two weeks into primary on this: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f68/best-laid-plans-oatmeal-stout-56876/ Gravity is still a bit high, but it tastes and looks great. Still too warm here for stouts but I plan on aging it until fall, or at least some of it. :)

Oatmeal Stout Best Laid Plans [Oatmeal Stout]

Got my first stout in the pail and just pitched the yeast. The OG sample tastes great! I plan on letting this sit until football season. Cheers and thanks for the recipe.

    What are you drinking now?

Every thing I got while I'm brewing an Oatmeal Stout... Bells Two Hearted Clone, Willamette/Citra/Simcoe APA, now a Centennial Blonde. :mug:

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

I just bottled 5 gal and it looked to be about 6 srm. I used Munich instead of Vienna. It was nice and clear, but good lord it smelled like fruit candy! I dry hopped with 1oz centennial and I FWH'd my bittering addition. The chilled hydro sample was pretty dang good, but the aroma was...

    Georgia, Tennesee Trip

I was just up in Minn/St Paul MN and I came back jealous and whoafully bummed about our brewing scene in Chatt. The Terminal serves decent food and the beer they brew onsite is not bad. I am not a fan of Big River but it's pretty popular it just feels like a Chili's/Applebees to me. I...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Has anybody tasted this at 5% abv? Brewed this for the wife (hop wimp) last night with Willamette for the late additions. Brew day was smooth except I used my new mill and fresh grain for the first time..94% efficiency, oops. I have been hitting 80 to 84% I didn't want to knock her out, just...

Heading to St Paul next week..

Just wanted to follow up (i notice a lot of the thread topics end as cliffhangers..arrgh.) MNSP is an awesome town/s! I drank an untold number of awesome local brews. Hit the new NB store. Couldn't swing a Surley tour but picked up a cool hat and chatted up the friendly employees. As for...

    Dry hopping

I dry hopped with 1.5Oz loose pellets then put a sanitized knee high over the end of my racking cane. No cold crash but it wouldn't hurt. Turned out awesome. I have a second batch bottle conditioning with the exact same dry hop bill, but stuck them in a nylon to soak. I doubt the hops were...

    Y'all rock!

I'm just running a simple BIAB set up with a turkey fryer and a laptop but after a couple simple SMaSH's to get my technique down, I got a nice buzz going with a fantastic third batch that tastes like what I want Fat Tire to taste like. Meanwhile I was waiting on a couple of bottles of batch...

Heading to St Paul next week..

Unless work goes terribly wrong I wouldn't be there for the surly tour. I guess I will just have to be content with trying the end products. I will check out NB and probably hit every one of the brew pubs, The first two each evening are on the company dime :mug:

    Low Carb.. Thoughts?

I've only posted a hand full of times but I've been trouble shooting a soapy taste. My first brew was a falconers flight smash. It was intensely soapy but drinkable. My next three batches were fine. My fourth batch was a pale ale that I threw in an ounce of 7c's at flameout. I just tasted a...

    ...where do you get bottles?

I live near a local pub. The hippie types that work there gladly give them to me for free. Just have to beat the recycling truck.

    Weirdest Wort Ever

Irish Moss is Carrageenan. At high enough concentrations it forms gels with itself in a 'house of cards' structure. Sheer (mixing) will liquify the gel, but it will reform unless you added enough water to get below the critical concentration. Check your wort after a few days. You may...
