    Grainfather!!

I'm. It an electrician but a 20A breaker in the box is not the same as 20A power at the plug. A 20A plus has a unique socket and doesn't share anything, it's a direct line from the main. So if people have other things on their 20A line, that's probably not a 20A line. It's a minor nit in...

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

Don't think you need 20oz of hops for a 5gal batch. In my experience, the commercial recipes don't scale linearly for Homebrew hops wise. 5oz total at flameout/whirlpool at varying temps/amounts, 4-5oz dry hop seems more realistic/economic...and would still be quite a lot of hops for 5 gal of...

Best window ac unit for a custom keezer ?

Maybe I'm missing something... These are 5 gal cornys? I don't understand how you get 8-10 kegs into a space 82"L x 12"w and 26"h BTU calculator here: http://www.uscooler.com/refrigeration-sizing-estimate

Best window ac unit for a custom keezer ?

Hmm. Think a window A/C unit may have a hard time cooling 10 kegs... Not sure I understand why a keezer won't work?

    Bottle conditioning question.

Doesnt matter, you can leave at room temp indefinitely only reason to chill is to prepare for consumption, bit of a cold crash to compact the yeast but it will settle at room temp given time.

    Grainfather!!

no need for a sparge arm as the perforated top plate takes care of distribution. sparge water heater will probably need to be on a separate circuit. i can't run both the GF on high heat and the sparge heater on high heat on the same circuit without tripping the breaker. use GFCI outlets.

    Message from lanlord (balcony brewing)

code where i live disallows propane on balconies. i have a grainfather and brew in the kitchen in a 3rd floor condo no problems - bathroom fan takes care of any abundance of moisture. have not considered brewing outdoors.

    Using coffee in beer

i tend to do cold brew method for coffee additions...this results in concentrated, rich coffee flavor with no bitterness... youncould either purchase a bottle of cold brew like stumptown (comes in a short red stripe type beer bottle) or make your own (lots of recipes on this online) i add at...

Why is commercial beer getting more expensive?

I don't know about BMC prices, but craft beers are using way way more raw j gradients than ever before. Even a basic session IPA can have insane amounts of whirlpool hops to add aroma/flavor without bitterness. This drives up the cost to make that beer exponentially. Imperial beers cost...

    Kegging advice please - CO2

The advantage to larger tanks is longer time between fills. A single 5 gal tank can last a long time, months carbing 3-4 kegs simultaneously in my experience. I have three 5 gal tanks so I have a spare and can fill two when the third is in use. Larger tanks are harder to hide and I...

    A Treatise On Beginner Beer

Make sure you use the right amount of yeast for your next batch. May want 2 sachets of US-05 for an 1.06 Once bottled, it can sit at room temp for 2+ weeks right away, no need to ease into it.

    "It's a proprietary hop blend"

Lots of entitlement in this thread. Makes me begin to think you don't like the beer BECAUSE the Brewer won't give you the recipe. Here's an idea, exercise your craft knowledge, palate and experience, and try to imagine what might be in it. I don't see Shawn Hill handing out recipes at the farm.

    "It's a proprietary hop blend"

I don't get why homebrewers feel that whenever they go into a commercial operation, they feel butt hurt if the head Brewer doesn't want to talk shop with them, share recipes, taste their Homebrew or whatever. Hobbies and business are e timely different things.

Low BTUs- pump pure O2 into the burner??

Really really bad idea. Not sure if this is a serious post?

How many don't rehydrate their yeast?

I think you can use yeast the way you want, but I also think that if you choose to pitch dry yeast you also forfeit delving into inane detail on other aspects of the brewing process. There's no point in discussing water or malt freshness or temp control if you're taking a kit approach to...

confused over german HB advice vs american HB techniques

There is no replacement for experience... No amount of reading or research can replace the experience of doing something, failing and learning from it. Lagers are not only more advanced a beer to brew, they can require a bit more equipment to do exceptionally well. Only you can decide the...

    Flying with Homebrew?

I travel with Homebrew in checked baggage in 1L or 2L soda bottles, pros are ability to squeeze before capping to make it 100% no oxygen and no fear of breakage and designed for pressure. This is fresh beer pulled off tap of keezer, not bottle primed or anything. This is for consumption within...

    Tan, non grapefruit-ie IIPA recipe?

Agree on moteuka. Also agree that a citrusy but non-grapefruit IIPA is quite a challenge. Also agree with loading hops towards the end perhaps losing the 60min addition altogether and focus on flame out, whirlpool and dry hop, additions, perhaps at double the rate in the recipe depending on the...

Brewer's Friend or another web software?

Far from an expert but I use Brewers friend to help create recipes and I find the way their water and yeast tools easier for me than beersmith 2. I can't speak to the gravity inconsistencies if there are any, but regarding boil volumes and such, this can be set in your profile area. By...
