    no DME... starter?

I didn't have any mason jars on hand, but I loved the image of my yeast starting its job in a growler from the Dogfish Head brewpub in Rehoboth Beach that I picked up on a trip last summer (I live in WI). Hopefully, some of that good DFH mojo is imbued into this next beer.

    no DME... starter?

Thanks. Got the starter going last night. Was a bit of a pain as stopping at 3 stores did not produce an appropriate funnel (seriously?!) and I made the mistake of putting aluminum foil in bleach water (apparently, bleach dissolves foil?). I boiled some foil last minute to cover the growler...

    no DME... starter?

Oh yeah! Malta Goya! I think I'd rather use some of my recipe's LME and pitch the whole starter than use Malta Goya, though. My starter will only be going for about 18-24 hours, so that seems like the smart thing to do anyway. Any recommendations on starter volume? I'm using a growler and just...

finishing up fermentation on a Belgain Dubbel.

Hey, thanks for the tips. Although I don't know the exact gravity reading, this was definitely the highest og we've done so far. I think I'll use this opportunity to buy the second fermenter I'd been planning to get anyway so I can get that porter started ASAP and give the dubbel at least...

finishing up fermentation on a Belgain Dubbel.

Hello. Just joined the forum. What a great resource! My brewing partner and I just checked the gravity on our most recent (third) beer today. It was a slightly modified version of Papazian's Dubbel Your Pleasure. We added some pumpkin at the advice of another experienced home brewer and just...
