    Ziptie rescues Hoprocket

I use it as a hop back after the kettle. With 3 oz of leaf Citra it adds immense aroma and filters the wort very well. Unfortunately, the $40 replacement clamp isn't worth a zip-tie.

help my ghetto rig cold smoker idea?!?!

I've got snow on the ground, that's why I'm considering the porch.

help my ghetto rig cold smoker idea?!?!

Other than the obvious don't burn the house down hazard which I think is easily mitigated, why not on the porch? I the soldering iron idea is good, but I think I'll pickup an electric grill start iron from Walmart.

help my ghetto rig cold smoker idea?!?!

These are all helpful responses. I now have little faith in my ghetto idea. Back to looking for someone with a real smoker.

    Vol CO2 soda?

Yeah thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I'll look for a widget, but 25' of 3/16" ID at 35F for 4 Vol Co2 sounds like a great starting point.

    Vol CO2 soda?

What volumes do folks carb club soda at? I've got something force carbing toward 2.5.

help my ghetto rig cold smoker idea?!?!

I think I'm doing it on the porch under the eve actually, which will be pretty smokey, but thats ok. I know that after the curing it needs to be smoked below 140 or maybe 120 even, so my real question whats the lower threshhold; how warm does it need to be when "cold smoking"?

help my ghetto rig cold smoker idea?!?!

Hey Friends, It's my first time; I've got a 20 lb. pork belly in my freezer. I'll probably cut a few slices to save, but after salt curing I'd like to cold smoke it. My plan is to build a disposable smokehouse out of a big heavy cardboard box. The top can be another thick cardboard piece...

    Extract vs All grain

Holy crap amazing answers! Lucky newb! At least add some BIAB grains so your wort has the slightest character.

    blending cultures

Yeah they work side by side for a single batch. Definitely, need a starter, thanks.

    blending cultures

I had a very positive result recently pitching multiple yeasts after thinking I was experiencing fermentation lag due to low cell count. Turns out I had a cracked and leaky airlock stopper. It could be that the original culture did all the work, but after pitching two more differing strains of...

    Southern Hemisphere Hops

Huh. I'm excited to use them! Your beer sounds great, my gut is asking if you simply under pitched! The big malt requires a big yeast bill. Before you lighten up, pitch up. I have approached the same challenge when building high gravity, higher volume beers.

    Southern Hemisphere Hops

I just got William's Southern Hemisphere Pellets bonus hops including Jade, Galaxy, Gem, Topaz and Summer. I've only tasted a few beers like Sierra's SH which is bright, aromatic and grassy along with some similar home-brews. What do folks think of these hops in their modern American style...
