I think NB forgot to crush my grains..

The two batches that I'm going to make are: California Common: 8 lbs 2-row pale 1 lb Simpsons CaraMalt Cream Ale: 7 lbs 2-row pale .75 lbs Gambrinus Honey Malt .25 lbs Dingemans Biscuit At least they don't "look" like they are crushed. At least if they are they're not crushed very...

I think NB forgot to crush my grains..

The crappy thing is I made my starter last night. I guess I could put it in the fridge and complain to NB to see if I can get them to send me crushed grain. It's 9 lbs worth on one batch and 8 lbs in another. The steam roller does sound handy though....my neighbor down the street has a...

I think NB forgot to crush my grains..

And I DON'T have a mill. Any other suggestions other than using a rolling pin and a cutting board?

    Beer Tools Pro

I've been pretty happy with BTP. The main issue that I have is that there is no "Brew Session" option. You just have to save your recipe under a different name when you brew it and update your notes. I like all the ingredients and stuff being right in there, no messing around and downloading...

    Good Kits?

Here's what I did when I first wanted to make a starter. I was ordering a few kits from Northern Brewer anyway so I ordered their starter kit. It came with a 1000ml pyrex flask, stopper and bubbler with 1 lb. of light DME and instructions. I don't regret the purchase. It wasn't very expensive...

    Brew Session At The_Bird's!

Wish I wasn't on call! I would have liked to come up and meet everybody.

    Good Kits?

I have priced buying the ingredients vs. buying the kits and in most cases buying the kits are around the same price or slightly higher. The only way I have seen where buying ingredients is drastically cheaper is when you are buying more in bulk. For example a Cream Ale AG kit from Northern...

    Samuel Adams Cream Stout

I found this stout to be quite enjoyable also. As a matter of fact it made me want to brew a Sweet/Cream Stout which turned out quite nice, if I do say so myself. If you have not tried S.A. Cream Stout I highly recommend it.

    Brew Session At The_Bird's!

It turns out I'm on call that week. So unless I want to risk getting called out in the middle of brewing, I probably should not go too far from home. I'll have to try to hook up with you some other time.

    Beer Tools Pro Revisited

I like it and I would recommend it too. The one thing that I do not like is that there are no "Brew Sessions" so to speak. Everything you save is a recipe, you could change the name of the recipe to reflect the brew date or something like that but no sessions like Beersmith. I like the mash...

    Step mash and water volume

I would be interested in checking out your spreadsheet if you would not mind. bnutting69 at hotmail.com Thanks! I have BTP but I am curious what if any differences they have in calculations.

    Public Service Anouncement

I would have to say that was one of the most strange videos that I've ever sat through! I don't remember ever seeing that when I was a kid.

    More praise for Northern Brewer

Don't worry Bird, I won't say a thing about your "spree" when I come up next Sunday.:D

What's the best approach for a Honey Wheat AG?

For the Honey Wheat AG that I'll be brewing at Bird's house in a couple of weeks, I have seen on the Net where some people do the following: 1. Dough in at 104° for 20 minutes. 2. Protein rest at 122° for 20 minutes. 3. Sacc. rest at 154° for 60 minutes. 4. Mash out at 168° for 15 minutes...

    Anyone else call in sick

It's funny that you post this, because I was thinking of *cough* calling in sick to brew today. I decided to just wait and brew tonight when I get home.

    Trub seperation

I just pour my cooled wort through a strainer. Sometimes I use cheesecloth along with my strainer. Work pretty good.

First AG, does this all look right?

Hmm... Maybe your on to something. I think what I might do is adjust the calibration of my tun in BTP which will adjust all my strike water tempetures, I'll also get rid of the infusion at 30 minutes. Then after preheating my tun with near boiling water I'll do my mash according to schedule and...

First AG, does this all look right?

I'm using an older Coleman 48qt rectangular cooler that I had laying around. I don't think it's an 'Extreme' or anything like that. It does not say anything on it other than the Coleman name. My 'calibration' was using 4 gallons of 140F water. I preheated the cooler using hot tap water. Bird...
