How many gallons of homebrew in 2011?

    +5 Belgian WIT 7730 + 5 = 7735

    Newie!

No, the only way to carbonate it and make it available for transport home to be bottled you would need a Corny keg and a suggested blichmann borrowing gun. The LHBS would have to carbonate and filter while pushing the liquid into your corny, can't use a regular carboy. As long as you let it...

    Removing labels from beer bottles.

I've had good luck with soaking my bottles in the bath tub in warm water overnight, then for the tough ones scrape the label off with a butter knife and get a scotch brite pad to scrub off the glue.

    So what's the real cost?

DAMN! Where are you buying your stuff from? I've got 4 LBHS in a somewhat close proximity and the pricing is all the same, I can do an extract run for 45-50 and all grain for 30-35.

Pros/Cons between Liquid and Dry yeasts

That is one thing I have noticed.... The price. Thanks for the info, I think I need to look more into Dry and get away from the liquid. COLObrewer, I'm viewing this forum on my iPhone.... Not sure where search is yet, sorry.

Pros/Cons between Liquid and Dry yeasts

I'm new to the topic and have only used Liquid yeasts, with the exception of some Montrachet (EdWort's Apfelwein). I notice some people are all about using dry yeast and others are only liquid. Is there any benefit to one or another?

Cider - after 6 weeks its still got a little bubble going

Why is a gravity of 1.000 concerning? It will be pretty dry but have some kick :). You're good to bottle.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Also, for an easy just to make a Corona Clone, Muntons makes a Mexican Cerveza kit that is damn near identical if you simply upgrade the yeast to the White Labs WLP940 Mexican Lager Yeast and skunk.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Surely, 8.5# pale pilsner 2 row 12 oz flaked maize .5# Rice Hulls (for Extract use 5.5# extra light DME and corn sugar) .5# corn sugar .75oz Tettnanger (90 min) (Use 1 oz at 60min for extract) .5oz Saaz (10 min) White Labs WLP940 Mexican Lager Yeast (this is the key to the true clone) Keep...

Garden hose water... how bad is it?

Also, be sure that your hose bibs are piped to your DOMESTIC water supply, some cities that have SECONDARY water for irrigation, etc.... Their hose bibs from the house are connected to SECONDARY water. SECONDARY WATER is not good for any brew.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2011?

    5 gal. Honey Wheat 1 gal. Strawberry-Guava Sparkling Wine 6563.5 + 6 = 6568.5

Is it necessary to filter my water?

EXCESSIVE free chlorine + yeast = nasty flavor. Not all but most cities treat their drinking water with chlorine. Free chlorine is best filtered out of your water for brewing, filtered is best. Not sure we have the same idea on Chloramines though, let's say you take a whizz in a cup of water...

    Small batch questions

    Right on the nose.

    Bottling High ABV beers

It will go just fine and have enough remaining yeast for carbonation.
  18. E

    Potassium Sorbate

1 lb. of brown sugar should do a fair job of adding some additional sweetness.
  19. E

    Potassium Sorbate

Potassium sorbate is used as a preservative/yeast inhibitor, not a sweetener. If you use this all it will do is act as a preservative to prevent yeast from continuing so if you want to carbonate you must force carb it. To back sweeten use Lactose (non-fermentable sugar). Maybe start with 1 C...

    Sodium Metabisulphite small batch question

1/16 tsp boiled in 1/4C of water to sterilize and dissolve. When done cool to temp and pitch. The amount you were looking at is still way too much! And would give you some less than desirable tastes.
