    Long-term aging questions

That's a cool idea and I was considering the same thing for my next child. Think I will do a mead though considering its going to be 20 years old. You could always do one of each.

Do I need to add yeast for bottling Russian Imperial Stout?

I thought the question was pretty clear. I brewed a IIPA earlier this year, OG 1.087 and did not add yeast at bottling. It's been in the bottle for 3 months with ZERO carbonation. Wish I had pitched a 1/2 pack prior to bottling. Like some of the previous guys said, it does not hurt.

    Experimenting with different Hops?

I am still new to home brewing about 15 batches under my belt (3 all grain). I have brewed a wide variety of styles but am considering an experiment with small batch IPA's. I have about 4 oz each of: Simco, Summit, Columbus, Magnum & Cascade on hand. I am considering doing an all grain mash and...

Belgian Wit on top of Wyeast 3711 French Saison Cake

I brewed a Saison a couple weeks ago and it is done fermenting. I am planning on brewing a Wit tomorrow. My idea is to rack the saison and put my wit in the bucket that my saison came out of. I have never done this. Is it as simple as draining the cooled wort out of the kettle onto the cake into...

Packing brew for weekly business travel?

Thanks for the 2 or 3 helpful posts. Why do people feel the need to answer questions that were never asked? I do travel by plane. I am exempt from the liquid rule but thanks for reminding me. I am often in the middle of no where and only Bud is available. My employer does not pay for my beer so...

Packing brew for weekly business travel?

Getting liquids through TSA is not an issue. My effort would be unscrewing the top and taking 30 seconds to fill it out of a keg. As far as carbonation, I would be filling it from a keg and understand the bag to be an airtight seal. Wouldn't it be similar to filling a growler that holds...

Packing brew for weekly business travel?

I travel every week for business and would like to bring some homebrew along. Glass bottles are to heavy and bulky. I have thought about using a Gatorade bottle or other plastic bottle but would prefer not to carry the bulk after it is empty. This has led to to consider the plastic bladders that...

    What I learned about Saisons

Sounds like most of you guys have quite some experience with saisons. I will be brewing my second all grain batch next week and am planning on doing a saison. The only commercial one I have had as well is Le Merle and I thought it was outstanding. It alone has inspired me to give it a try...

Adding half of DME 15 min before end of boil

Have purchased several kits from my local shop. I have noticed that all the recipes call to add half of the DME 15 min prior to the end of the boil. I asked them what's the reason? They claim that it improves the clarity of he beer? Is this true and how can it be?
