    Mash temps and FG

Yeah, I originally pitched WLP005, that got it down to 1.030, I pitch Nottingham and got it to 1.030 ..... I'll give it a week to clean up and see if it drops any more, but I don't think it will.

    Mash temps and FG

My thermometer is fine, 212 at boiling. I know that I mashed high, and I stirred quite a bit, so the temps should have been pretty uniform throughout. I knew that mash temps play a large role in fg, but I didn't think it would make it FG at 1.030 instead of 1.020, like I said, its not a huge...

    Mash temps and FG

OK, I am new to AG brewing, I did my first AG about a week ago. It was a sweet stout, with an estimated OG of 1.054 ... I ended up at 1.064. I wasn't concerned about it being way above what I expected, I wanted this to be sweet anyway. I wanted a really full body stout, so I mashed high, I...

    First AG

I may have an issue with this batch. I mashed high, 158 ... I wanted it big bodied. It fermented down to 1.030 and has been there for a few days, I pitched some s-04 hoping to bring it down farther ... but 2 days and nada. Would mashing this at 158 be the cause of the high fg 1.030?? or...

    Atlanta Area Homebrew Clubs

Hey guys, How do I join? I tried to join the group on HBT, but have still not gotten a reply or accepted. I also keep trying to join the site, but get an "security error", it says I am coming from a broken link. I have tried to join from a mac and an xp macine, as well as from safari, firefox...

    Stalled fermentation?

OK, I re-pitched yeast yesterday at about 4 pm. I decided to go with S-04. It's been over 24 hours, and still no real activity, gravity may have dropped a little. I expected fermentation to kick in from the dry yeast by now ... although I know it is still a bit early. is it possible that...

    Stalled fermentation?

What yeast should I pitch. Should I go with the same strain (WLP005) or dry yeast. Should I aerate before pitching? Should I try to add some nutrient before pitching, or should I repitch with some yeast nutrient? I hav enever had this issue before, so I really don't know what to do.

    Stalled fermentation?

OK, I took a gravity reading again today, and its the same as 3 days ago ... 1.032/33. Should I be concerned now, or is it still too soon to call this stalled? if this is "stalled" what should I do to try and kick it off again? I have it on a heating pad and got the temperature up a little...

    Keggles

The other night I asked my wife if she knew what a keggle was. Her reply: Ummm ..... it's an exercise. (google kegel exercise) I figured you guys would get a laugh out of this.

    Stalled fermentation?

I just read up on white labs site that WLP005 can be sluggish at 65 degrees and will also settle out very easily at temperatures that low. The site says to shake up the fermenter to get the yeast back in suspension. My thermometer on my bucket says 66 ... so I am chalking my perceived slow...

    Seasonal brewing?

I've done an IPA in the summer with WLP008 ... worked well for me, no off flavors. My basement doesn't get above 70 here in summer .... maybe 71 tops. I may have been running at about 69 or so when I did this, but it worked out very well.

    Stalled fermentation?

OK, the yeast are working ... it's still got a ways to go, but it down to 1.033 ... and pretty tasty already. I'd love to rdwhahb, but I'm not drinking right now ... but that is a whole other topic of conversation .... I am brewing this for when I will be drinking again .. hopefully soon. And...

    Stalled fermentation?

OK, let me just add ... I know airlock is a poor way to judge, but what I do know is that my container is still air tight. I know because if I press on the lid, I get air coming out of the blow off tube. I have never had this happen before though, the blow off has quit bubbling and it appears...

    Stalled fermentation?

OK, I really hate to ask this, but I am a little ... cautious .. I think is the right word. I brewed a relatively high gravity stout (1.064) on 10/28, and pitched some WLP005 I had harvested a few months back. I warmed up the yeast, and made a 1000 ml starter ... the started fermented just...

    open fermentation in the backyard?

Funny, I just tried this last night. I had some extra runnings that I didn't have room for. I tested gravity, and it was at 1.034. I didn't want to toss it, so I figured what the hell. I have 2 quarts sitting out on my front porch .... I figure its not loss, but it could be something cool.

    First AG

I brewed my first AG last night ... went pretty well. A little disorganized, but I will work on that. The brew was supposed to be a SA Cream Stout clone I found, but I used a different yeast, and some different hops ... so basically it's a stout. I was aiming for a 5.5 gallon batch, but...

    AHS versus Morebeer

Never ordered from either. But I was looking at the 7.99 flat rate shipping at AHS ... does this really apply to everything ... even bulk grain?
