Announcing My Brewery - Hailstorm Brewing Co

Great PintoBean not only did you save alot of cash doing things yourself, the satisfaction must be off the charts too. I'm an industrial mechanic by trade so there is very little in the way of fixing stuff/building stuff that I can't do. I make a recommendation to all young guys before you go to...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

At the beer distributor this weekend, buying a case of Victory Hop Devil. A moderately drunk but very friendly guy buying a keg of Mossehead...... Him- "How can you drink that stuff, its so bitter" Me- "I love it" Him-"I gotta say you gotta be a real man to enjoy drinking that" Me-"My wife...

    Straight sugar brew

Just google sugar wash, home distillers use them all the time to make a neutral. It will taste horrible undistilled tho. Google skeeter pee and make him that if you want something cheap that tastes good.

How much sugar to prime 4 gallons

Wow T29 I plugged my Caribou Slobber into that formula and came up with 2.3 oz for 4.5 gallons of beer. Considering the standard amount they give you is 5oz its no wonder some of the extract kits I made last year got over-carbonated!

    Irony of the Arrogant Bastard

Star San does not work chemically, it works by PH. I mix mine with distilled water and as long as the PH is right it will work. I have no idea how old the batch I'm using now is, I remember making a fresh batch when I was making wine in the fall. Checked it yesterday and the PH was 2.27 and its...

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

Making the page 1 recipe, got all the stuff from my LHBS and brewed on a day off. ended up using Nottingham Ale yeast-no time for a starter. Not looking for a Bell's clone(never had it), just a good drinking IPA. Sipping a Victory Hop Devil right now, if you like hoppy beers and live near Pa I'd...

    New AG brewing follies

Thanks, all my lurking on this site i never found that chart. Playing around with the calculator was very informative, it showed the exact amount i was missing from my mashing session. Should have sparged with 4.5 gallons I sparged with 4.0 gallons. I was guessing the grain absorption. Onlt...

2nd batch ever one of my top 4-5 beers ever tasted...is that possible?

First batch of beer i ever brewed was an extract, it was a chocolate stout that I aged for a month with some bourbon soaked oak, stuff was like crack. It was gone in a few days everyone said it was the best beer they ever tasted. SHMBO still asks me when I'm making it again

    New AG brewing follies

Did alot of extract last year, results were great. Decided to try all grain after getting all the gear gradually. First batch was Caribou Slobber and it went great I just had too much boil off (I thought). Second batch was an IPA, decided to not use hop bags for my additions.....huge mistake #1...
