    Thanks to all!!

Seems like you're a little ahead of me (oatmeal stout in bottles ~2 weeks and IPA in the fermenter) but this place is so full of knowledge and good advice. I cant stop reading!

    OCD or just weird preferences?

I for some reason never set my alarm clock or the microwave on any number that end in 0's or 5's. I still have no idea why.

    Removing Bottle Labels

Hot water with PBW in a round plastic tub from Home Depot made it real easy to get the labels off of the Sam Adams and magic hat bottles I had in about half an hour Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    too much water in carboy?

Was it an extract brew? In the few batches I have done my OG was lower than the recipe stated but after some reading found that it was probably due to doing a partial boil and the wort not being completely mixed with the top off water when I took the sample. This may be what's going on but you...

    First batch in the fermenter

Just a little update: After a little over 2 weeks in the fermenter I just checked the gravity. It is at 1.020 right now where I hear extract brews tend to stop at times. I am going to check again in a few days and see where the reading is at, if its the same I will go ahead and bottle it this...

Don't judge me for the following question.

Im very new to this but if you have any malt extract my guess is that would work best as far as increasing alcohol and flavor.

    Jasper's?

My first brew (still in the fermenter) was their oatmeal stout kit. Shipping was fast, Ill probably order another kit from them at some point.

    First batch in the fermenter

I will definitely keep that one in mind. I already have the ingredients on the way for the second brew and I keep finding all sorts of recipes I want to try. I would say the addiction has begun!

American Brown Ale Swamp Nut Brown Ale

Thanks. Im a new brewer and am not set up for full boils yet so I wasn't sure if I was going to have to adjust the hops or anything. I have my first brew in the fermenter, with the all amarillo IPA up next when the fermenter is free, this one will be my third batch.

    First batch in the fermenter

Thanks for the tips and reassurances. I had the bag of LME in warm water for a while before I put it into the kettle, there just seemed to be some left that was hard to get out. Seems like it would be easier to get it all out with some hot water and not make a big mess with jugs of the extract...

    First batch in the fermenter

Thanks guys. I'm excited about this first one, now its time to wait. Good thing I'm going on vacation next week so it will make the waiting easier. Already bought everything I need for my next batch, the all amarillo IPA extract recipe from the recipe database. Going to a beer festival tomorrow...

    First batch in the fermenter

After countless hours of reading the forums here, watching youtube videos and other research I finally have my first brew in the fermenter, the mush mouth oatmeal stout kit from Jasper's. Had a couple issues. A boilover when I ran inside to grab my thermometer that I forgot :drunk: while...

How long to get to a boil?

Thanks for the help everyone. I was looking at the pot and a majority of the middle of it is raised up a bit so it probably won't work on the flat top. Glad I did a test run before wasting ingredients. Guess I will be looking into burner.

How long to get to a boil?

Hey everyone, I am wanting to brew my first beer this weekend. My dad had an equipment kit he bought years ago but never used and I have been wanting to try to learn to brew beer for a while. So I bought the mush mouth oatmeal stout kit from jaspers brewing and am looking forward to getting...
