How come my beer is so low in alcohol

I dont really see you breaking 5% abv with that recipe unless you got it below 1.010... but it still sounds like a mighty refreshing beer!

decided to try a pilsner or lager of some sort, ideas?

Well I can tell you my first lager was a Marzen and it flew off my shelves. I was getting sick of PAs for a minute, and needed something malty. Pretty simple recipe with just munich and noble hops.

    Uses For Spent Grains

Now thats what I'm talking about! I just put a 5 year old blue oyster culture on a petri dish the other day with intentions of doing something similar. Its probably too old to work, but who knows? Guess I could always take a tissue sample off a store bought mushroom... I usually just compost...

Take more gravity readings before and during boil? Have some dme when your under, take some wort out and add water if your over. In the famous words of Jesse Pinkman: "Its all about the weight, yo!" Ah, but volumes... >_< finding out the boiloff rate for your kettle can do wonders..

Cold Break Removal Idea: Low tech, works great

Did you end up using that reclaimed wort for a starter or for bottling? A couple times before I've reclaimed some wort from the hop/cold break material left in the kettle, although I haven't taken it far enough to siphon clear wort out of a carboy. I think I ended up using this wort for yeast...

    how to store cleaned bottles

I "cap" my bottles with a piece of foil and autoclave them . This way whenever I have 30 min free I can fire up the autoclave and sterilize my bottles/starters whatever, and keep them around for a while. Come bottle time, remove foil cap and save for reuse. Apply beer and real cap. My guess...

    Winterizing potted plants

You could do the same, cover the pot surface with straw or mulch. That will provide some nice insulation over the winter. Or you could just bring the pot in the garage once you start seeing freezing temperatures.

    22 oz. Bottles Carbonation threshold?

I had a bubbly cider naturally carbed to 4 vols in 22oz. A couple ended up bottle bombs but the ones that didn't stayed fine for years. I'm pondering using coke bottles to carb my orval clone... i figure soda/pop is usually carbed pretty high. Can't remove their label without paint thinners...

    hello from az

Hey guys I'm new to these forums, but not new to brewing! I have at least 20 ag brews under my belt from brewing off and on for 7 years, and recently got back into it again. I'm a little more interested now in yeast, grain flavors, and hop varieties in all aspects of bittering, flavoring and...
