    Is it just Jersey?

Oh, well if it's open to any alcohol than I'd say it's because lots of folks got hammered to the point of being seriously sick when they were in college and we are actually programmed to avoid things that make us ill. Ever notice how there are some foods people won't eat anymore after they get...

    Is it just Jersey?

Well how old are you? I know that for folks around my age (early 30s), there was a big Tequilla craze when we were in college, it was just the "in" thing to do shots of. Maybe this is still the case but I feel like the trend has shifted to vodka a bit with all the "premium" brands out there...

    Why the names?

I like coming up with the names and making the labels. I typically give beer away as gifts and the nice label makes for a much better package than just giving them a brown bottle.

    New brewer from NH

Welcome from your neighbor to the south. Good luck with the obsession.

    Few Beginner question.

My recommendation would be to buy the 5 gallon kettle. Over time as you want to try different things you will be glad you did. In the meantime, you should be able to boil 2 gallons in a 3 gallon kettle. My recommendation would be to steep in the kettle on the burner and not in the oven. Once...

    aeration

Most folks doing all the extra aeration at AG brewers. When doing a full boil, the dissolved O2 boils off so extra effort is needed to reintroduce that oxygen. With a partial boil and top-off water it's not necessary to do more than give the carboy an extra shake or the bucket an extra stir.

I guess I've seen everything now.

It's an interesting idea, but I doubt that it will accomplish anything, especially when you consider that the majority of gay people in America probably won't do this because they know it won't do anything. Unlike the immigration issue (which they are obviously stealing the "call out "sick"...

    Pie vs Cake

I am always in the minority on this one. I love pumpkin pie, but that's the only one. Cake on the other hand is one of my favorites no matter what the flavor. I think it's to do with the fruit component of pie, I'm just not a big fan of cooked fruit typically.

    Uh oh, Lyme disease...!??!

Lyme disease can be a huge problem if not diagnosed and treated early. However, if you catch it early enough and get the antibiotics for it, it basically stops is in its tracks and it shouldn't progress any further or cause significant complications.

    Mason Jars good or bad?

As already stated, not good due to pressure concerns. Now I do serve in them on occasion and they are great for washing/storing yeast and making starters.

What are the last Genuine / Authentic Experiences?

I've got to say, I've been learning how to play guitar and it is definitely a new/authentic experience so I'd like to add, learning to do something new to the list.

    beer tastes funny

Something as big and malty as a Scottish 80 is definitely going to need some time for all the malty goodness to blend and mellow.

    Any Gamers Out there?

How are you liking the new COD? I'm debating whether it should go on my Christmas list.

    new here

Welcome. The best way to get started is reading John Palmer's How to Brew. Available for free here. After that I recommend picking up a starter kit at your local homebrew shop or from a reputable online shop such as Northern Brewer or Austin Homebrew (those are the two I use). You've also...

"air" space above beer in bottle, how big?

:off:Well they used to call it inches too, then they succumbed to the EU and all their standardization nonsense.

    Anchor Steam Holiday Ale

I picked some of this up last night but haven't tried it yet, anyone had it yet? Any good?

"air" space above beer in bottle, how big?

I've always used a bottle filler which, when you fill to the top, leaves exactly the right amount of space once you pull the filler out. You are correct that too small a space or too large a space can cause various carbonation issues.

    Differences between extracts?

There is very little difference between British and American pale malt extracts, just as there is little difference between British and American pale malt. If you are trying to be 100% true to a certain style it might matter to you, but for the most part you can substitute at will. My guess is...

    Did you know?

Around here BMC is considered domestic, even though all BMC beer is now owned by foreign entities, while craft beer is considered imported, even though a lot of the breweries that make it are owned and operated in the US. As for the whole Blue Moon and Killians thing (and I would add Sam Adams...
