    All-grain equipment for sale....maybe

Thinking of selling off my all-grain equipment. I now work two jobs and this hobby has taken a back seat for a long while now. Only looking to sell as a full lot, local pickup or delivery from Long Island, NY. Most of this stuff is home-made because it was part of the fun of this hobby. Some of...

    Sauerbraten

I love, love, love sauerbraten. I tried making it once and turned out very vinegary (I just put too much in). I don't see any vinegar in your recipe, I'm assuming the pickling spice takes care of that? Anyway, I like it served over spatzel with a side of sweet & sour cabbage. Authentic or...

    Raspberry brew

I used the frozen berries in the supermarket... I think between 2-4lbs. I let them defrost, mashed them up while still sealed in the bag, then opened and just poured right into secondary. They're pasturized and all that good stuff so no infections, turned out really tastey cause you're using...

I feel like I hit the Lottery

Pretty sweet is right. You better do something good with them. It's hard to tell from the pics, but looks like some of those fittings are galvanized not stainless. I wouldn't be comfortable using galv. fittings for making beer, just double check those.

Can I used Cocentrated apple juice?

That's what I was thinking.... Is it Concentrated juice, or juice from concentrate? One word, very big difference. Concentrated juice will have to be diluted, juice from concentrate will not. Flavor? Probably good enough for what you want to do.

Brakes and Rotors. Please Give me Peace of Mind.

I would understand there being noise if you only replaced the pads and not the rotors.... but it seems a little strange to have noise with new pads & rotors. If you can pull off the wheel on the one that seems to be making noise, it's very much a good idea that you do. Check for any gouges or...

The coolest Remote Control Model Plane EVAH!

No, no, no. Saying you WILL crash your first time is crazyness. I fly RC and didn't crash my first time. I attribute this mostly to the use of an RC flight simulator though. It is inevetible however that sometime in your flying career, you will crash. Don't be afraid to get into this hobby...

    Brewing disaster

Wow, how does a soccer ball have the ability to knock over 5 gallons of wort? That's a heavy pot... was it on something really flimsy? +1 for taking it easy on the kids.... the fact that one was apologizing for an hour means they probably have some good morals.

    Weak Bottles

The neck of every single Hofbrau bottle broke the second time I tried to re-use them. After 3-4 I had to dump them back into the bottling bucket and use different bottles. What a pain

    Greek beer

Only greek beer I've had was Keo, which is similiar to spaten/hofbrau/etc. I've never actively looked for a greek beer though.

    HBT Pilots...MMW, with request

I took an Introductory lesson about a month ago and it was a very bitter-sweet experience for me. I know sometime in the future I will get my license, but right now time & money constraints are keeping me from my dream. So stop your belly aching and realize there are people out in the world...

So I'm looking for a dog....

Let me start off by saying I love goldens, my family has had 3 in my lifetime, friends & family have had/have now more than I can count on two hands... It seems you're not interested in the need to train & exercise a dog that has a good amount of energy. While Goldens are great dogs, I feel...

Kind of beer for someone who doesn't like hops?

If she thought DFH 60 was tolerable, you are better off then you think. I too agree a hefe or wheat would do good. So would BM's Centennial Blonde (from personal experience with SWMBO)

    Melanoidin Malt as Decoction Substitute?

Quite honestly, just lazyness. Recently I've been feeling a little worn out after a typical AG brewday. I'll probably just suck it up and do a decoction.... even though it seems there's no general consensus that a decoction will provide the maltiness I'm looking for in a helles. Also, it...

    Mash Efficiency, first time measured

85% is great. However, you don't want to mess with anything until you find what efficiency you hit consistently. I'm pretty consistent at 85-88%, and there's no reason to do better then that as a homebrewer.

    Melanoidin Malt as Decoction Substitute?

Anyone else agree with this? That would be even better.

    Melanoidin Malt as Decoction Substitute?

I'm looking to do a Munich Helles in the near future and was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with Melanoidin Malt, and whether it is a "good enough" substitute for a Decoction Mash. I'm just trying to get the flavor close to the style, not really trying to follow BJCP...

I was served CORK TAINTED wine at a tasting

The past few years I've really taken a greater interest in wine, mostly due to SWMBO, and now I drink about as much wine as beer. Not only have I never heard of this, I must never have had a corked bottle either. Unless it isn't as obvious as you all are claiming, I do not believe it has ever...

whats your mill gap setting (barley crusher)

Mine came from the factory around .034 and I'm getting a great crush, maybe borderline too much flour but never had a stuck sparge: Batch sparge SS Braid. No wheat beers though. 85%+ Efficiency. I highly suggest setting to .32-.35

    Homebrew Supply Store in NYC?

I thought there was one in SOHO? Karps is really cheap. It might actually be worth the train ticket compared to shipping. But then you'd have to lug all that stuff back to the city...
