    Wyeast Nutrient

Are you implying that they are hiding something and it lasts longer or shorter than a year? Enquiring minds want to know. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    No initial hydrometer reading

I use a cheap, plastic hydrometer tube or jar like this: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/fermenters-favorites-economy-test-jar.html?gclid=CPKS_eL4rrwCFa4-Mgod3AYA0Q I went with plastic to not worry about another thing to break. Works for me. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Mash Temp for Two Hearted Clone?

I would drop the cascade dry hop and add more centennial. I've always heard it is pure centennial and it REALLY tastes like it from a fresh keg. I might even say 3oz dry hop if you have it. A centennial bomb is quite lovely, and fresh in a keg it is always much more pronounced than I've had it...

    3 Gallon AG Batch Question

I also use an 8 gallon kettle but have managed with a 5 gallon Igloo round cooler for 3 gallon batches. You can easily mash a 1.085 beer or so in 5 gallon coolers, probably even much bigger but I haven't tried. If 5 gallon batches are in your future you'll probably want the 10 gallon cooler to...

How do you store bulk hop pellets after breaking the seal

Oh, and I'm doing 2.5 and 3 gallon batches as well. Not many people to share with so bigger batches would just be asking for trouble.

How do you store bulk hop pellets after breaking the seal

Heh, well it's all subjective of course but my wife and I tend towards hoppier IPAs and Imperial stouts so we never shy away from more hops. I'm enjoying the fact that I can pump a ludicrous amount of ingredients into small batches without worrying about margins like the pros have to.

How do you store bulk hop pellets after breaking the seal

I wouldn't throw them away, I'd just throw them in the boiling wort. :)

    2014 Hopslam search

I've really been enjoying Greenbush's Brother Benjamin lately. It's another 10% IPA with honey, so if you haven't had one yet I'd say pick out a bottle and see which one wins. Probably not a good idea to drink them back to back though. :). Both are winners but the BB is super balanced and I've...

    2014 Hopslam search

Started seeing it on Tap and in shops last week in mid-Michigan. Couldn't help but partake in both modes of delivery.

    Mead not for Me!!

Since you have access to B. Nektar distribution, try their Zombie Killer. It has apple cider, tart cherries and star thistle honey. Very tasty stuff. Peppercorn can be a hit or miss in any kind of drink, so I'd definitely say try another before writing them off.

Is 209°F Enough for an AG Boil?

As a new indoor brewer I was disappointed to learn how little I could bring to a boil on my electric stove during some testing. I ended up having to settle for smaller batches for now. My first all grain brew was 3 gallons into the carboy and I was really, really happy with it. Sure, I do wish I...

Do I need to add more yeast?

Folks more knowledgable than I will want to know your recipe and mash temp to know how fermentable your wort was.

    Real Vs. Apparent attenuation

Regarding your question about the difference between real and apparent attenuation: "The gravity of beer is most often measured using hydrometers. However, hydrometers are calibrated to measure the sugar content of a solution of water. Finished beer, however, contains alcohol (ethanol)...

    All Centennial IPA

Looks tasty! Maybe one more ounce in the dry hop? It does look like Two Hearted Ale and I envy your keg setup for this one. I've probably had a hundred bottles of Two Hearted, but a really, really fresh draft pour just explodes with Centennial and is considerably different from the experience...

how long can I keep hops?

Hi Todd, I'm not an expert on this but I know that how you've packaged them plays a big part. Are they in vacuum-sealed or nitrogen flushed bags, or could they possibly have been exposed to oxygen in, say, a ziplock bag? That might help the experts to answer the question.

Gypsum in the mash and boil kettle??

A lot of folks will add salts to the boil if adding them to the mash would alter the pH in a detrimental way. I know when I was initially researching this topic myself I saw lots of threads on the AHA forum where the infamous Denny always said to get your mash pH right, then add more flavor...

Why is this beer not bitter

The only store near me (and by near I mean an hour round trip) does this. Needless to say, once I saw this I knew I was going to be buying my hops online in bulk.
