    Beets in beer?

    Careful now, you just may have a crowd beeting a path to your door to try some!

    American Porter Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter

    Update: This batch I brewed back on 11-10-16 finally hit it's prime after bottle conditioning for 6 weeks. Dang... wish I would have let them be until today! I only have one bottle left now. Next batch I will leave them alone for 6-8 weeks then start sampling :tank:

    Wood fired brewstand

    Have you thought about making a wood fired boiler? You could use the steam coming off the boiler for a LOT more than just brewing I would think.

    Old fridge for fermentation chamber

    Yup, those previous responses all back up what I've experienced with my old fridge. On my fridge I fill the top portion with bottled water, soda or store bought beers. It keeps them cool... not cold like a fridge but cool depending on how much the unit runs to cool your ferment chamber. My...

    Lagunitas on Chicago Fire

    LOL... just watched that episode this evening, honestly my eyes were focused on his injury and not the name on the keg for some reason ( ;

    Not Stalled, But Dead

    Try rousing the yeast. Depending on what kind of fermenter you have this could be easy (with a bucket) or more difficult (with a carboy). Essentially all you need to do is sanitize something that is long enough to reach the bottom of your fermenter. Then gently scrap the bottom to get the...

    Spike brew kettle

    I would vote for that really friggin good IPA! Honestly I have always brewed on a new kettle with recipes I am familiar with. Even if I am doubling up on the recipe at least I know what to expect, with the boil off the only unknown... Really good choice for equipment!!! :mug:

    Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

    I've brewed the 5gal recipe enough times now that I felt confident to take a stab at a 10gal batch today. I hit 82% BH efficiency with a little over 11 gal into the ferment buckets. Will be just shy of 5% ABV when it's done fermenting :mug: Update: S.G. on this batch was 1.009 on 1/10/17 and...

    Effects of too vigorous boil

    I too have wondered if the different taste I noticed in a previous brew was due to an aggressive boil or not. It pays to keep mental notes during brew day ( ;

    Immersion Wort Chiller Cooling Time

    I was dissatisfied with my IC after several brews so I built a CFC based on this thread Now I just sip home brew while I adjust the inflow or the outflow while the kettle is draining :mug:

    Two mash tuns one stout

    I think you have an excellent idea! It could really streamline your mash time and I bet you would get pretty good efficiency also. I crunched the numbers real quick for your recipe and it would take 6.5 gal to mash those grains, assuming a 1.25 ratio of water to grains. You should end up with...

    Secondary fermentation??

    I stopped racking to secondary and I list the reasons why in this thread: Death to secondary fermentation! I don't rack anything to secondary these days, not even high gravity beers, just let them clear in the primary and when the gravity stops dropping I bottle em :mug:

    Still making bad beer after 30+ batches.

    I'll second that! I had a few batches that went sour recently, that hasn't happened in quite a while but I was thinking of this thread with every sip of those skunky beers!

    70 Qt. Cooler with false bottom

    I would suggest you give a try at building a drain manifold for your cooler, you won't regret it! Having only one drain point in a MT creates more pressure on the single drain point than if, for example, you had two or three drain points. Having a single drain point also seems to push more...

    How can I increase efficiency?

    I will second, third and quadruple the previous comments about grain crush as a first step to eliminate efficiency issues. I've recently experienced a slight loss in efficiency over the past half a year or more and was wondering what was going on... then the last time I bought grains to brew a...

    American Porter Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter

    Giving this recipe a try tomorrow. Not sure if anyone ever answered a few of the previous questions asked about which chocolate malt to use... I searched through this thread for quite a while and couldn't find an answer so I played around with this recipe using Brewtarget software and the...
