Buying grain mill vs buying crushed grains

I buy two bags of 2 row and pick it up at my local HBS. I get a 10% discount for AHA membership on everything. The final cost is $63.00 per bag. I purchase 2 bags and all the specialty grains for five or more different recipes, hops and yeast at the same time. Watch the dates on your yeast, and...

hook 1/2" ID silicone tubing to 3/8" OD copper tubing

I soldered 3/8 to 1/2 inch adapters and 1/2 inch rigid copper on the lines and then compression clamps on the lines.

    3/8 in. ID or OD

I got three March pumps for three growlers. Had to change the heads on one for the SS high temp, but the price was right. Beer for bartering is the only way to go!

Will a 20ft 3/8 OD immersion chiller work for me?

My 3/8 chiller works fine. I run tap water until it reaches 100 degrees and then switch to a cooler with a submersible pump, Less than $20 on Amizon) and frozen water bottles. Not sure how cold it could get but I stop at 70. By the time I finish sanitizing my fermenter the wort is cold. 10...

Anyone using two 3/8" immersion chillers?

To anyone who uses an immersion chiller

After a brew that tasted like broccli - licorice when someone close by was cutting grass, I built an electric system and brew indoors. No lid on my BK, but I do use one on the HLT to help hold heat.

anyone using a hop spider with immersion chiller?

This is my 15 gallon electric BK. I make 5 gallon brews most of the time. The Hop Spider is just under 6" and about 14" deep so it can set just off the bottom for the 5 Gallon brews. I made the chiller so it fits in the kettle with the spider in the BK. Plan, build and modify to work.

    Load safety on circuit

I didn't run my fan or the lights through my brew system. As an engineer I always looked for the single point of failure. Redundant power equals higher reliability. I also built a waste water transfer system because a drain was not close by. My next project is a fermentation chamber. My wife...

    Best Book for New Brewer

20 years ago when I started brewing, The Complete Joy of Homebrewing was the only book I could find. With that book and the help of my local homebrew supply store I made my first red ale. I now have many many books on brewing. I would pick John Palmers How to brew as my first choice but only by...

    Load safety on circuit

I built an electric system 10 years back, 240v 60A main service. This was a logical power selection for me because the parts required are available at most hardware stores. Hot tub GFI's are lower cost than GFI breakers. I can run my HLT and BK both at the same time when doing a double brew day...
