    Burton Salts?

Had almost the same question. What is the ratio of gypsum to papain. Same issue with the 5.3 buffers. Whats in the mix? I just build my own profile based of the style I want to brew.

StarSan (ChemSan) just mixed yet PH is bad

Only had the DI and vinegar in the jars a bit over a year. No change so far. don't know how long it will last. If there is a change I will recal the meter and replace the solutions. I only use the solutions as a quick test, not as a means of calibration.

StarSan (ChemSan) just mixed yet PH is bad

I have done a quick check of my PH meter with Distilled water, 7.0, and distilled white vinegar, 2.45. I keep a pint jar of each with my water salts. After my PH meter was calibrated I tested each jar and recorded the readings on the jar. When ever I feel the PH reading is in question I do a...

New way to be lazy, achieved!

To get over the thresholds I just lift the edge with one foot while holding the carboy steady with one hand. I brew in the laundry room and ferment in a storage area or furnace room. (65-68 degrees).

New way to be lazy, achieved!

Necessity is the mother of invention. After a sholder injury that ment I was unable to lift weight for six months I did the following. 1. Added a pump to my brew system. 2. Purchased small furnature dolly to move Carboys and kegs. 3. Installed a pully in the the room I keg in to lift my Carboys...

    Nightmare brew day. Just venting

After 20 years of brewing I've made several errors. My goal is to learn and don't repeat more than twice. The first time I had a boil over it was on the kitchen stove. Wife was out of town and thought it would be a good time to brew. Wort went over the stove top and under the burners to a large...

How do you keep your kegged IPA's fresh for extended time?

Thanks for all the feed back. I have been going over on the hops and trying to reduce the ABV to make a session style IPA. 3.5 - 4 %. Just brewed a Pliny yesterday that was supper hopped but the ABV will finish close to 9%. Short session beer!

How do you keep your kegged IPA's fresh for extended time?

I use DI water and salts. When I transfer to from the secondary to the keg, the keg has been sanatized and purged with CO2. I purge the head space at least three times after the lid is installed. As the only beer drinker in the house it just takes a long time to finish 5 gallons. That might be...

How do you keep your kegged IPA's fresh for extended time?

I love my IPA's but after I tap the keg they change (freshness), over the month It takes me to finish the key. Are there any ways to keep the flavor at its peak over a two month time span?

Buying grain mill vs buying crushed grains

Each of my brew systems have been different in the way they worked and the effency of the mash. My electric system uses a 10 gallon round cooler with a false bottom. My strike water volume is added to the MT and recirculated through a HERMS coil in the HLT. When trying to achive maximum effency...

    Stefan Shoemaker's Porter

I have done several GF brews over a year ago. I have an aged Porter that beats any porter I've ever made. The aging took the edge off the sorghum twang. I used a kit from a gluten free web site, Roco Creak something. Tried to buy sorghum in bulk and make my own with only fair results. The...

Buying grain mill vs buying crushed grains

Any time you feel the mash bed might result in a stuck mash. It add nothing to the flavor and is cheap insurance. I always add a hand full when I use wheat or sticky grains.

Buying grain mill vs buying crushed grains

I have trouble finding that sweet spot between too small and best conversion. Glad I keep rice hulls on hand when it looks a bit too fine.

    Co2 regulator

Has anyone Calibrated the gage? I have a dual output and one reads two pounds high. Compared the two on charged tanks and with my fermentation pressure regulator.
