    Brewzilla Gen4 Discussion/Tips Talk

This is what I have seen and the only way I've been able to somewhat balance that is by pretty rapid recirculation. I also had a WCIPA finish at 1.020 which has basically never happened to me in 15 years of brewing. My guess was that the bottom of my mash was 160ish while my insta-read at the...

    Brewzilla Gen4 Discussion/Tips Talk

Have had up and down issues with gravity on the BZ4.1. I understand what you guys are getting at with less recirc but I'm curious how you handle any heating during the mash. If I'm not recirculating pretty briskly I know there is a huge temp delta between the top and bottom of the mash. I've...

I missed that. That explains why they've disappeared from homebrew stores around here.

Been waiting on an Omega Daybreak V homebrew pitch for ages. Dunno if it's even in the plans or not. Guess I should start calling breweries to try and find some.

I've got a pound of HBC 1090 T90 and some cryo. I've loved it in some commercial beers but I've struggled to make it work in mine. What kind of ratios did you use? I get so much orange out of it that's it's almost plasticy and orange creamsickle like.

I'm loving BRY-97 for clean, hoppy beers. I pitch two packets into 5.5g of 1.05x-ish oxygenated wort and hit FG in 48-72hrs. It drops clearer for me than S-05 (though everything I've read states the opposite should be true) and I think the hops shine a little bit more than S-05 as well.

I pitch 2 packets on just about everything other than something like a Saison yeast. I'd rather overpitch than underpitch with something as easy and inexpensive as dry yeast. I have no idea if BrewersFriend's yeast calculator is accurate or not, but it recommended 2 packs for 1.056 at the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Has anyone played with any of the newer Lox-less malts available in an NEIPA? I've been brewing a bunch of 5% hoppy pales lately and decided to try out the Viking Pilsner Zero. 24 hours in the keg so too early to really judge but it seems fine. I prefer Rahr 2 Row in anything hoppy vs pils...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

After pitching BRY-97 in a pale ale for the first time, I read a lot of horror stories about it. Had a great ferment with it. Two packs into a 1.056 wort, saw activity within 6 hours and was at terminal in about 3 days. Kegged with BioFine and is looking great after only 24 hours in the keg.

Want to talk about hop creep a little bit. I don't have the ability to reliably cool to the 50's for dry hopping. I'm going to buy some ALDC for future batches, but I just dropped in around an 8oz dry hop and have steady airlock bubbling 24 hours later. Could just be nucleation, but I kind of...

That sucks to hear. I just filled up the chest freezer with a bunch of MHA 24 Nelson and others. I actually just brewed with Citra Cryo, Nelson and Strata from them the other day. All smelled and looked fine on brew day. I decided to give them a go because the Citra, Mosaic, and even Nelson...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I'm finally starting to get my fermenter, transfer, and pH process together. And just my process together for these beers in general. It's resulting in my best versions of these beers so far. OG 1.082 2 Row Malted Oats Spelt WP - Heavy Mosaic, little bit of Citra and Rakau DH - Heavy Rakau...

I follow the ProBrewer suggested pitching rates by OG and volume on the Brewer's Friend yeast calc. I've never investigated it myself but I figure with the money spent on hops alone for these beers, I'd rather buy more yeast and overpitch if anything.

Looks solid. I would say use Brewer's Crystals instead of Sugar unless you're intentionally trying to dry out your NEIPA. Would also pitch way more yeast for 10 gals @ 1.090 OG. Probably looking at 6 packets of Lallemand Verdant at minimum.

The 2024 Galaxy from YVH is decent. I think I don't really like predominately Galaxy beers, and admittedly I don't really remember what peak Galaxy tasted like, but the 2024 was very passionfruit forward to me, with a little dank/green onion.

This is what I love to do with this style. It's a blank canvas to really help you understand specialty malts. 3-5% of anything 20-40L or 10% Munich like you said makes amazing beer while avoiding the cloying, brown 1LB of Crystal 60 style IPA recipes that circulated in the early 2000s.

I haven't heard of Treehouse talked about as much as they were back in the day, but I got caught up in their new YouTube marketing storm. They're doing some kind of brewer vs brewer in house thing they've apparently done before. The challenge is to brew a single IPA without Citra. One thing I...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've never used a hop that dominates like 1019 does. I have very limited experience, but I did one batch with 2 oz T90 in WP and 2 oz Cryo 1019 in the dry hop (5.5g batch size). I've had commercial examples with 1019 that had a great candied orange flavor, but in large quantities to me it tasted...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I traded for some Heady and Focal Banger ages ago... probably 2014-15 and thought it was great. Not sure if something has changed with my palate or it's a canning/geographic thing. We get it once a quarter now in Denver and I don't think I've ever had an IPA with so much green onion and...

Thanks, that was my next question. Putting the poppet back in place seems like it would be an oxygen inducing deal but obviously better than siphon transfer. I've always avoided in line filters because I thought they would clog with these beers. Sounds like good clear wort into the kettle...
