American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

Learning the no chill hop timing takes trial and error with your set up. For hops under 20 min in the regular recipe, I add them at flame-out at different times based on BK temps. I let it cool for 15 min or so (i boil in my kitchen so YMMV), see how far it has dropped, and decide when to add...

Save Some Wort for Stuck Fermentation?

Toss it in the freezer instead. I freeze any extra wort from my mash for starters.

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

Nice write-up. Would you handle a really hoppy beer with LOTS of hop materials any differently? OG was 1.056.

    Post bottling gravity

A DIPA would never start below 1.060 (most are in the 70+'s), so your 1.044 is either wrong or something else is not accurate.

    All grain starter

I freeze individual portions of AG wort, which comes from extra volume not needed for the BK and/or I sparge a bit extra during the brew session. Then defrost, boil for 10 min, use as a starter.

If I buy liquid yeast, do I have to make a starter?

You don't have to, but when it isn't bubbling in 24-48 hours... you know why (you underpitched) and don't need start a new thread here asking why :) cheers!

    Problems with plastic bucket fermenter?

i am not certain this is 100%, but on my buckets to test the airtightness, I press down on the sealed bucket top (after yeast pitch) to make sure my bubbler is bubbling. I've never had a bucket in 5 years not bubble w fermentation. knock wood.

    Experienced Homebrewer Turned Beginner! Help!

wow bummer!! I would bleach bomb all the plastics you can't afford or don't want to replace. I would not omit that the bugs could be in the fermenters and however you siphon, as acetobacter need oxygen and a sanitation issue to flourish. So it could take while for it to show and you may not...

Is it safe to use tap water for fermenting.. or does it have to be boiled or filtered

you should boil the water. The nasties that can ruin your ferment can pass through a filter but not a ten min boil.

Pliny Kit - possible infection - advice appreciated

it doesn't look infected. I would drink it asap though, because it should be drunk fresh. Yours is 4 weeks old. I try to keg my hoppy beers in ~ 14 days, and do the last DH in the keg. and there is too much headspace in your secondary. Get a 5g BB for secondaries- I don't secondary IPA's...
