    Corny can't hold a 5 gal brew!?

Most here, I would surmise, have little or no experience with a Festa Brew kit. May not be anything wrong with it, just saying that our kits in the USA where most of us live are usually 5 gallons (we always use US gallons in the US, never Imperial- that is British I think?). We lose some to...

Water Adjustments to a finished beer

I would try to cover the off flavors with fruit, like raspberries. or dry hops. I doubt much else could work. But I have no clue actually! (edit: sorry, didn't realize this was posted in the brew science thread).

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

Just brewed this as a No Sparge, No Chill, No Yeast Wash. I dropped the specialty malts a bit to lower the gravity a bit {for less calories} and use what I had. OG 1.047. My second Yooper brew in a row!

    Kettle to Keg short time

Any low gravity, 'simple' [clean] beer with the right amount of yeast can be done quickly: BierMuncher's Centennial Blonde or other light, yellow beer- 10 to 14 days grain to keg. A dark Mild, like Orfy's- 7 or so days to keg. these are in the recipe database & linked here.

Adding Cherry (flavoring) to my Wheat

I applaud your testing idea. If you don't like it, use real fruit in secondary. I have never done cherry but at least 1# per gallon of beer for sour cherries (per Randy Mosher's radical brewing book) is the standard. For cherry pie taste, he says to use Montmorency. No idea where to get...

    Left Over Ingredients

I would not use it all in one recipe.. looks like too much RB for sure. prob need only half that. What is the caramel #? it varies from 10-120. Suggest you look at PM recipes in the database here for suggestions and add or drop grains as needed. My two cents is that you have only a few...

Crock Pot / Slow Cooker Recipes

Great thread. here is my contribution. my fav is carnitas (mexican pulled pork). 3# pork shoulder/butt, cut into cubes. or whatever size of pork fits in your pot. Toss with olive oil, and rub in spices (below). 1 large onion (quartered)- placed on bottom of crock pot- add pork on top...

    Pliny the Elder with Amarillo?

I agree. I think is it neat. I posted a link to the old one so you have guidance on the math conversions to 5 gallons.

    Pliny the Elder with Amarillo?

thanks for posting the update elpeneso. Thw recipe has changed over time. You can email Vinnie too. I don't think it is any secret, as Vinnie handed out the PtE recipe, scaled to homebrew size, in 2005 at the NHC. As someone mentioned, hops will change with availability. I have seen the...

    Cream Ale Fizzy Yellow Beer

Want to brew this, just can't decide to do 100% vienna or add some two-row to use up an open sack (like 2#?) Mashing in now: 80/20% After a horrific mash temp fight, did get an OG at 1.051, IBU the same at 21 [used my scraps laying around: magnum to bitter (60 min), calypso (20 min) and...

American Porter Robust Porter - 531 Brew Haus- 1st Place 2009 HBT BJCP Comp

On a re-brew (vs the original winning recipe for which we had to post the recipe), I would drop Galena for sure, and sub with what hops I had laying around at that point to get the right IBU for the 60 min add. When I made it I had a lot of Galena. The hops aren't crucial at 60 min here. I...

American Porter Robust Porter - 531 Brew Haus- 1st Place 2009 HBT BJCP Comp

Thanks for the bump. Need to re-brew this, later, for Winter 2015 drinking. A heavy (but delicious) porter doesn't sound good now. Lawnmower beer time!

Muntons dry ale yeast... Yea or Ney?

I would look to upgrade. The few times I ordered from Midwest, I upgraded to US-05 for $1 (a great price)-- the Muntons came along once, so I used it for yeast nutrient. tossed it in the boil at 5 min. Haven't brewed with it. But it has other uses. Cheers.
