calories in filtered vs unfiltered homebrew

a few quick things as I doubt any one has the actual number of calories-- 50 to 100 ckal extra seems super outrageously high though. You are supposed to leave the yeast behind, in the bottle when you pour the beer into a glass. So it shouldn't matter and you are not drinking a full 12 oz (less...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

totally agree. The beer is targeted for BMC'ers who are adverse to flavor in their barley-water. Try dry hopping it w/ an American hop like Cascade etc, in the keg to jazz it up.

Yes another "My fermentation hasn't taken off" thread...

whoops, thought label said 1.050. I don't have a liquid yeast here. Sorry!

Yes another "My fermentation hasn't taken off" thread...

good point about the seal. is there krausen? no bubbles in airlock don't equal no fermentation.. since you have a glass FV I figured no krausen since you can see activity.

Yes another "My fermentation hasn't taken off" thread...

Did you take a hydrometer reading or are you looking for bubbles only? If a hydrometer reading confirms no ferm activity... It might come to life, or it might have been dead before it came to you. It was made in March (4 months before best by date) and I don't know how it got to you in Alaska...

    Won my first comp

Congrats on the win. If you want to protect yourself, trademark your brewery name and ask to have the promo materials identify the collaboration. I would not ask for any money- they are going out on a limb that the beer will sell. (I don't know the beer you made or your market- obviously a...

When using fresh liquid yeast why should I make a starter?

A bit of a nitpick but just pitching a vial is not the full WL instructions. It says to pitch at 70* until fermentation starts, then drop the temperature of your FV; or, if a faster ferm start is desired, to make a starter. IMO White Labs implies on the label that the yeast need to get their...

    Hop question

In the recipe section, look for Centennial Blonde, Cream of 3 crops, or Fizzy yellow beer. these are mass crowd pleasers. Vanilla? eh, not so much. I have had great VCA's but that is not the target!

    Hop question

Keep it under twenty, like 15 for BMC drinkers. I believe Coors lite is about 5 ibu, not bitter whatsoever (like water).
  10. midfielder5

Hoppy Tropical Blonde Ale or Session IPA?

try sub 20 ibu (like 15) if brewing for a person who doesnt like hops. BMC have like 5-8 IBUs. If you like hops, always dry hop! and good first post!

    Bottling directly from carboy

    it will be fine

Just bottled an IPA that was in fermentor for 2.5 years

C'mon man, chill one down and drink it tomorrow! I drink flat beer all the time, after siphoning to the keg and there is a bit extra. and of course the hydrometer sample.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

At 25 IBU with 4%abv, you made a session pale ale ;) It is a flavorful blonde ale that is pretty unlike any commercial blondes. I often drop IBU's to 17-18 for this if BMC drinkers are gonna have at it.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Coors lite is about 5 IBU so of course this at three (or four) times that will be bitter to her. IMO it isn't the beer, if your process was good.

Is $59.95 shipped to cheap for a reconditioned Keg?

it is a pin lock- they are usually cheaper than ball locks from what I have seen. You want to do all of one kind to avoid changing your line connectors.

    Party guile question

I would run the numbers but my shoot from the hip answer is that it would work to get a 3 gallon Rye as second runnings with at least 3+pounds of a "cap" (2 row + rye). You need more grain (I think) for decent OG @ 5gallons.

Can I split batch over two days?

Yes it will be fine. I do it all the time ("no chill" brewing). Better idea would be do pitch yeast when batch #1 is at pitch temps. Commercial brewers also do it- my local brews one day, puts it in fermenter [it fills only half-way], adds yeast, brews on day#2 to fill fermenter. Fermenter...

Lawyers (or anyone knowledgeable): Legal question concerning LHBS!

CA lawyer here. YMMV in your state. The advice here is worth what you paid me :) You are pissed, and rightfully so. I would take the refund money and/or ask for the next few grain recipies free/discounted.. but $40/used-refurb keg is still a good deal btw. In small claims, here you have a...

Help me choose what to brew next

Stir with a long sanitized spoon. anyways OG for extract brews, in a known (accurate!) quantity of water is easily figured out with any of the free online calculators, so I wouldn't worry about it.
