Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Just built what might be the easiest MLT/HLT yet. It could be the cheapest also. I picked up a 48qt Igloo Marine Cooler for 24.99. Installed a Brewers Edge Kettle valve i got from Austin HBS or 18.99. I only used the drain plug seal and bushing from the cooler with the nut from the valve. I'm...

First mead - what should I make?

With 12lbs of honey, for a sweet to semi-sweet use the wyeast american ale yeast (act1056). It has a clean finish and should work well. Be sure to make a starter with it.

    priming with honey

I've used 3/8 cups (2oz) of corn sugar and 1/2 cup of honey to prime before. Didn't have any bombs. It does take longer to condition though.

    Help needed with partial mash

I built a 2 gal MLT with a $7 igloo cooler from walmart and the design from 10 gal MLt thread in the DIY section. Used a 1 in nipple instead fo the 1 1/2 called for. Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Cool the bit with a little wd40. Deburr the new hole (sand paper wraped around a wood dowel will work) and clean off. you...

Heatstick - Help me prevent myself from getting electrocuted

The heater element is grounded in a water heater to the tankbody through the attaching threads. Attaching the ground wire to the tube will ground the element when the ring attaches to the tube. Move the ground screw to the top of the tube near the handle, less chance of a leak there and will...

Planning out my first mead...advice please?

If you want a sweeter mead bump the honey to 15 lbs and use either the 71b, 47d or Wyeast 4242 Chablis yeasts they drop out around 12 to 14%. I personally have only used the 71b which works well for semi-sweet meads. Loose rule of thumb 1lb honey around 1% alcohol, not exact but close when...
