    Heat Stick design alternatives?

You could always buy stainless fittings, although they would be on the expensive side. On the plus side, you could probably skip a lot of the epoxy steps. I would guess the chrome would be as durable a finish as any, although it can be somewhat porous. If only there was an easy way to remove...

What can I do with this?

Is it 1/2" ID or OD? maybe a whirlpool tube or an over the top fill/siphon tube?

My new 10 gallon insulated stainless MLT (contemplating manifold designs)

Sorry, missed this one... a simple braid is my fallback if I end up having issues with other designs, but I'd prefer a false bottom or manifold. I'd like to try fly and batch sparging and I've read the braid might not be quite as optimum for fly sparging. This is a pretty good idea but...

My new 10 gallon insulated stainless MLT (contemplating manifold designs)

Looks good, thanks for the pic. Although I'm now starting to think I might pick up some perforated stainless sheet and cut out a false bottom in two halves. I found out the threaded fitting on the bottom of the Aervoid is 7/8"-14 (5/8" BSP) which is actually the same size as shanks and Sanke...

My new 10 gallon insulated stainless MLT (contemplating manifold designs)

Thanks for the link, after looking at some of their designs I got the idea of just making a 2 piece false bottom that would have a bit of overlap in the middle. I think this should work. I'd love to see what you ended up with, and I'm also curious what it looked like when you ported the...

My new 10 gallon insulated stainless MLT (contemplating manifold designs)

It's insulated, I'm pretty sure it's a vacuum, actually. The outside is around 15" wide whereas the inside is about 10-11" wide. When I was cleaning it, I did think "man, flipping this upside down with a few modifications and converting the vacuum to a glycol jacket, this could be a pretty...

My new 10 gallon insulated stainless MLT (contemplating manifold designs)

Here is what I was thinking as far as making a mesh "hockey puck" that's 6" wide that would have a tube to feed the outlet of the container. I'd guess it should be somewhere in the 1/2" to 1" tall range and have a frame or supports to keep it from crushing. I wonder if it would be as...

My new 10 gallon insulated stainless MLT (contemplating manifold designs)

I was lucky enough to score this 10 gallon Aervoid model 784 insulated stainless container on the local craigslist. $15! It's supposed to keep liquids hot/cold for hours... there was no way I could pass it up, even if I just modified the lid (not shown in this pic) and used it as a HLT. The...

Estimating alcohol by total weight during fermentation?

While the scale I used is accurate for most things (accurate to 8 tenths of an ounce), it's certainly not "perfect" for this. My scale that is accurate to 1 tenth of a gram is only good to a little over 1/4 lb, so clearly that won't work. It really was just an experiment... I should be able to...

Estimating alcohol by total weight during fermentation?

Well I did just find this thread, https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f13/monitor-sg-beer-fermenting-251137/, which mentions something I didn't really think of at the time... the added weight of the multiplying yeast cells. I suppose if anything, the alcohol content should actually be slightly higher...

Estimating alcohol by total weight during fermentation?

I tried doing a search but wasn't very fruitful given some of the common words. I'm curious if anyone has tried estimating alcohol content by weighing the entire fermenter? As a bit of an experiment, I thought I'd sit the carboy on a fairly accurate (.05 lb resolution) digital scale during...

    Hello from PA

Just wanted to actually say 'Hello'... been a long time reader but haven't posted until now. I've brewed some ciders and ales so far and I'm currently waiting for my first year Cascade, Nugget, Perle, & Sterling hop rhizomes to envelop my back yard. Having this much info in one place is awesome!
