    Belgians-blech

I used to not like Belgians. Then I found quads. Quads were my gateway beer. Now I like 'em all, with gueuze and Flanders red being at the top of the list with quads.

    Consecration kit from MoreBeer

Getting ready to give this recipe a shot soon. Thinking of doing a 1.25L starter for the WLP530, which should get me to 246B cells of the recommended 264B needed for a 1.073 SG. Does that seem like enough/too much of an underpitch?

Why does BIAB require so much water for mashing?

I picked up two 5g buckets and drilled a bunch of 1/4" holes through the bottom of one of them. Put that bucket inside the non-drilled bucket and simply put your bag into the nested buckets at the end if your mash. I "squeeze" by using my big ass potato masher (makeshift mash paddle) to push...

    wilserbrewer BIAB bags

Wilser, my bags arrived safely yesterday. I can't wait to mash in! These are a remarkable improvement from a paint strainer

    Better Bottle advice needed please

Cool, I'll take a look at the article. Thanks! I have a dedicated temp controlled chest freezer for primary fermentation, and the basement is in the upper 60s year-round, so I think I'm OK with temp control throughout the process.

    Better Bottle advice needed please

Gotcha, thanks for the feedback. I'm all for the flexibility with the 6g. :mug: Have you experienced oxidation with longer aging in the BBs? I ask only because I believe Mike Tonsmeire uses them regularly for some longer projects. Looking at the notes from his lambic attempt, it seems he had...

    Better Bottle advice needed please

Excess headspace if racking to secondary was necessary was the only reason I was debating the 5g. Price is not a concern in this particular decision. :) Dan, I wasn't considering a solera at this point, but I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility down the road. Sounds like 6g is the way to go...

    Better Bottle advice needed please

I'm going to make the jump to brewing sours shortly, but I need to order a few Better Bottles first. I could use some advice on which size(s) I should get. I usually do 5g batches, kegged, for my clean beers, so I will probably stick to the same size for sours. Are sours traditionally racked...

    Pumpkin Pie, just mashed in?

If you want a beer that tastes like pumpkin pie, just brew this instead.

How do you clean your bags?

    Same here.

    My BIAB Process Refinements

Well, I know what I'll be doing with all the extra Reflectix I have. Single layer... What was I thinking!

    I love it when....

I thought this was going to be a thread about a plan coming together.

    Beverage Elements Online Store

I ordered a CO2 tank from them 8-9 months ago with no issues. I don't recall a delay in receiving an order confirmation. Can't speak to their email skills, never had to write them.

starter wort shelf life w/o pressure canning

Thanks! Doesn't seem worth the risk with that replication rate.

starter wort shelf life w/o pressure canning

This one is only 1L so that should help with the cooling time I guess. Eta how: Boil 1L in a flask on the stove. Add light DME, boil for 15 mins. Transfer the flask to an ice bath in the sink.

starter wort shelf life w/o pressure canning

Mostly delaying because I won't be able to start boiling until 7-7:30 and I would like to be done for the night by 8:30. Cooling seems to take at least an hour with the flask in an ice bath.

starter wort shelf life w/o pressure canning

Hi folks! I'll be making a starter later this week, but I'm hoping to cut down the time, particularly around cooling, as I'll have to start the process after work. Is there any consensus how long I can safely wait to pitch without risking botulism after I've boiled my wort? Would...

Found my kettle! but how big?

If you're asking the question already, get a 15 gal kettle. I use that size for 5 gal batches, and I've never said, "Gee, I should've gotten a smaller pot."
