    Priming with Maple syrup

I made a maple porter last year. I used pure maple syrup 1 Cup boiled with 1 cup water. It Conditioned just fine and tasted great. In a heavy tasting beer like a porter the Maple is not as pronounced as you would think. :mug:

    first time making mead

I am going to try Papazian's mead. Not sure of the fermentation time though. He says ferment to completion. Then rack and wait until clear. I don't normally mess with my brews unless I am racking. So What SG will I have to get to. (I guess I'll have to buy a wine thief) 15lbs Honey with...

    Homebrewing Cost analysis.

I was kind of interested to see how much I would save at first. Which I guess by brewing your own you do. I get more satisfaction from the fact that I created it much like EdWort. :mug:

    a little heart to heart

I'd F with it! I would rather rake in a few hundred thousand; appealing to other craft brewing connoisseurs and others that like flavor than to the millions of Drones around the country. Some of these craft brews that are available now are available because people like us will buy them. Rouge...

    a little heart to heart

That may be because they know it is more labor intensive to make a good beer. A really nice wine is about climate and blending not proper crush, mash, sparge and proper yeast selection.

    a little heart to heart

I can not drink Macros...If I buy beer it's definitely craft brew, Flying Dog, Terrapin, Sweetwater, Rougue. Green bottles don't do it for me.

CFC only getting wort down to 95

Using some salt in the pre chiller bucket should lower that temp a few degrees. It should be very little water and mostly Ice. Just enough water so it's like a half thawed slushy. The submersible pump is probably your best bet if your tap water is 85 degrees. So that you can recirculate Ice...

    My Immersion Chiller

You could also try to add 5 or ten feet of coiled copper in the ice bath in the sink to cool the faucet water even a touch more. :mug: I need to upgrade to a Chiller my self I have been lugging my pot to and Ice bath also. Serious pain in the but!!

So much Fuggles! What to brew?!

I would like to talk to your neighbor, buddy of mine grew a vine of Fuggles and one of Cascades. We were not expecting the Fuggles to Produces as much as the Cascade anyway but it only produced like 7 flowers (WTF) The Cascade Vine went absolutely bonkers. This is an organic garden that...

What NOT to Do With Spent Grains

I compost and have never had a problem with smell. Well it is a rather large pile for one house 6x4. I always spread out the pile put the grain evenly in the center cover and turn it in. I add grass clippings, potato peels, veggie and fruit peels, egg shells, coffee grounds. don't forget all...

    Cheyco's CFC

Ok I have been wanting a wort chiller. I was going to build a regular Immersion unit but like someone else said Home Depot only sells 20' sections. This design looks great and is only a few dollars more than an a store bought immersion unit. How many of you guys use pumps? How hard would...

What is the Minimum Equipment for AG Brewing?

Take the aluminum pot back and get a SS. I run two Professional kitchens. The aluminum WILL react with both the malt and definitely the acids from the hops. I know it's priecy I bought my pot through work and paid $130 for a SS 40qt so I know a 60qt will cost you.

    Want a built in/undercounter Kegerator

To each his own I guess. If you think about it if I go with a used kegerator I still need to change fittings and what not and I have checked craigs in my area all are $5-600. Thats for a single tap since I never go half way I'll be buying a dual tower and placing the gas tank in the adjacent...
