Show off your 2012 Hops garden!

I currently have two plants, Nugget and Chinook. The Chinook is doing better by far. I ripped my Centennial plant out of the ground last year as it never did well getting full sun and grubs were decimating it. I have five to six lines per plant running up to the roof of our two story house...

Best solution for cleaning beer lines

Iodophor only stains if you leave it in the line. I use it all the time and my lines are not stained. The key is to hook it up to the keg and rinse the line clear with beer. I use oxyclean to clean the lines and taps. I have an extra keg that I keep oxyclean in that I hook up once a month...

Anyone ever hear of this? Killer prices!!

I have a 15g aluminum pot that I have done 50+ batches on and I have never dented it even when dropping it from several feet off the ground. I bought my pot from Wares Direct three years ago for about $60. The wall thickness is 6mm (1/4") and is super durable. Aluminum pots are very durable...

Adding yeast to under-carbed bottles of barleywine

This same thing happened to me with a big RIS. My final abv was ~12.5%. The FG was 1.040 and that was with adding champagne yeast three weeks into fermentation. IME the champagne yeast only ate the simple sugars and didnt touch anything else. I tried multiple things to get the bottles to...

    How fast do you brew

I would say from the very beginning of heating water to cleaning and putting everything away it takes me 4-5 hours. It depends on the day and the beer. I do AG with 5-6 gallon batches and mash in a round 10g cooler. The key is to spend your down time either prepping for the next steps or...

    2bbl batch yeast starter

Make a 10 gallon batch of ~1.040 OG beer and pitch the yeast cake. That way you have beer and the yeast you need. Otherwise the best alternative would be to contact a local brewery and ask for a gallon or two of fresh yeast slurry from one of their fermentors.

Metallurgy Question- my SS keggle has rust in it!

The rust is likely from iron/steel particles that were ground into the surface during the post grinding of the weld. The particles were likely carryover from the grinding a steel weld previously. It happens when the grinding wheel is not cleaned or replaced between jobs. I'd start with the...

    Organic Grain Suppliers ?

I order a ton from Rebel (near Nashville, TN) and the prices/shipping are very reasonable. Depending on the type of malt they are 20-50% cheaper than Seven Bridges for organic. Brewing Ingredients - Organic Ingredients - Rebel Brewer

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

This design is very similar to what I did. Same exact cooler from Home Depot. I took the really easy route and just used a spigot assembly from a hot water heater. It had all the flanges, interior nipple, and valve already built in. In total I bought 4 parts: The hot water heat spigot...

Rebel Brewing has Breiss and Muntons DME for $3.10 per pound. That's as cheap as I've seen it.
