    First AG batch yesterday....

Did my first AG batch yesterday and I think it went ok. I did a fair amount of research getting myself ready for AG brewing (only have 1 other batch - extract - under my belt). Used the online calculators and had the timing down but had to improvise a bit. Made a couple mistakes. I did the...

    small brewpub business plan

I would actually suggest doing this now instead of waiting 5-10 years. There are a lot of issues that go along with starting a business and having a family, mortgage, 2 dogs and a car payment will definately make a difference in deciding to make a move. I am not advocating being reckless (you...

Local Brewshops in Colorado Springs or south Denver?

I am in Monument and recently started brewing. I got my starter equipment and first extract kit from Midwest. Shipping seemed really high which made them comparable to some of the local shops.... They were really good about answering questions via email. I didn't get a yes/no type answer on...

    Thinking about partial mash

My turkey fryer is 30 quart (7.5 gallons) and does a full boil (6.5 gallons) just fine. I agree, that you should go bigger if you have the means though.

    I have a problem...

Even if I don't use your "quick" method for getting from grain to glass, I love the plastic soda bottle idea for figuring out when your beer is done carbing. That was a big concern when I did my first batch... so I waited 2 weeks before even trying one. It was carbed up and I thought, "damn...

    I have a problem...

This seems to be more of a problem of not brewing frequently enough, or not brewing big enough batches (take your pick). I had a hard time on my first batch waiting but held out for 2 weeks and put one in the fridge to test the carbonation. Then waited another week for the next "test". They...

    Mash schedule

Thanks for all the help. I think I am just over thinking this, but I have calmed down now. I measured my loss from my MLT last night and it came out to a little less than a quart.

    Mash schedule

Sorry... I have a 7.5 gallon kettle (turkey fryer) & burner immersion chiller 6.5 gallon fermentor 6.5 gallon bottling bucket hydrometer thermometer 7 gallon rectangle mash tun with copper manifold I don't have the exact grain bill in front of me (it is from a kit), but I remember the grain...

    Mash schedule

I used the brew365 calculator... seems pretty good to me, but didn't have anything about sparge water temp. Correct me if I am wrong... but I don't want to go over 170 when sparging.... so getting sparge water to 170 would probably be ok, assuming it will lose a few degrees when mixing with the...

    Mash schedule

So, I should have target temps on the order of: 152 (mash) and 165 (sparge)? I am confident in the water/temp calculations for the mash, but will have to figure out the temp of the water needed for the sparge to hit my target temp. Not sure I have seen anything that tells you the temp of...

    Mash schedule

Getting ready to brew my first AG this weekend and was doing some prep work during lunch. I am brewing a kit (5 Gallon 1554 clone) from AHS that has directions for fly sparging and I am going to be doing batch sparging. The calculator from here says I will need 3.65 gallons of mash water at...

    Couple Questions, Manifold Related

If I had time... I would I think you did mean to be ****** :) I should know better too... worked in construction for a long time. I have access to a machine shop at work, so took my long pieces and cut my slits on the band saw and de-burred on the wire wheel.

    Couple Questions, Manifold Related

I was building my copper manifold last night for my new mash tun and got to thinking.... 1) Do you have to worry about infections when doing the mash? Reason I ask is that the copper has some scratches and crevases where nasties could possibly live. I plan on cleaning and sanitizing...
