    Indie Music Lovers?

Wow, I haven't heard about Hot Water Music in years. I had one CD when I was 21-ish, over 10 years ago.

    Indie Music Lovers?

New Pinback album is as much like Pinback prime as the album m b v is like loveless... Except 20+ years didn't pass, just 5+. ;) Seeing Pinback is still on my to-do list

What does your HBT name mean?

Mine's taken from a song lyric I really like... Think it's in my signature? Song lyrics: if you can't think of something yourself, you'll still sound creative using them. ;)

What are your "can't live without" equipment items?

All my carboys have brew haulers (plastic straps with handles) on them... I don't think I could lift a full carboy safely without them.

Do You Still Purchase Commercial Beer ?

I love beer. There's no way I could brew all the styles I like, and you have to try new things. I'll always buy commercial. But... I need to buy LESS now :) Sierra Nevada has become my go-to, cheaper beer.

1/2 Liter bottles -- dumb question

I tend to rack up a lot of 29mm bottles because we are fans of Belgian imports, but for standard size Jolly Pumpkin bottles are my favorite.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Gonna do an ESB from Northern Brewer tomorrow with my first smack pack. Might smack it tonight (no double entendres there I swear) and leave it on the counter. Trying to put all my knowledge I've gleaned so far from HBT into this one, including late LME addition. The Northern Brewer kits...

Do you always have a twang?

Just to clear things up for a newb extract brewer- the LME should be added at what, the 5? 10? minutes left part of the boil? Or it varies by style?

Kit instructions say to rack to secondary BEFORE fermenting stops...

Excellent, thanks everyone. I plan on taking a gravity reading and going from there to decide the method I'll use for dry-hopping. Experience is the best teacher I'm sure, but I do appreciate hearing the opinions of those that have already gone done the road.

Kit instructions say to rack to secondary BEFORE fermenting stops...

...but the feel I get from the board is to let fermentation complete before racking into a secondary. The kit in question is the BB Falconers Flight IPA. Any thoughts to which way is better? I've never racked a batch into secondary before.

No yeast packet in brew kit! AKA typical newb panic

Can I make it more complex? :o I've got some US-05 [good call- that exact strain indeed was supposed to be included in the BB kit but was missing] coming my way in a few hours. I checked the fermenter today- nice and quiet, looks fine... some trub at the bottom. I can shake that trub back up and...

No yeast packet in brew kit! AKA typical newb panic

Thanks so much!! And, ha, lesson learned. There will be extra packets on hand at all times from now on. Thanks, everyone, and I'm too new and anxious to have a few batches under my belt before I'll pitch any experimental elements ;)

No yeast packet in brew kit! AKA typical newb panic

Like any good newbie I'm posting with a "situation" I encountered today and not sure if my decision was the best. Our Brewers Best Falconer's Flight IPA kit came with no yeast packet, and like any aforementioned good newb: 1. I have no dry brewer's yeast on hand [lesson learned] 2. I didn't...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

We are brewing our second batch today- a Belgian Golden Ale kit. Haven't even tried the first batch yet, as today marks one week in the bottles for it. Guess I just can't wait to do it again! Woo-hoo!
