    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm on a roll! Cherry wheat on July 17, Pineapple Weizen on July 24, Sacred Summit PA on July 31 , Pliny Clone (minus the corn sugar in the boil...DOH!) on Aug 7 and now an Experimental Hop PA on Aug 14. Sculpin clone planned for Aug 21. Wifey might have me take a break after that, although...

    wort chiller leak!

My first batch I experienced the same thing. The only problem is that my water is groder, full of iron and rotten egg smell. After tasting my first beer I dang near gave up homebrewing....and no amount of aging made that particular beer better! Heat does funny things to tubing......just...

    wilserbrewer BIAB bags

For the folks that might not read through 28 pages of reviews, I'm here to say these bags (and customer service) are great. I am on brew 20 with my wilser bag. On brew 2, I didn't pay attention to my therm and snagged my bag as I hoisted my bag out of the wort. The next day I placed an order...

Bag squeezing and adjusting grain absorption ratio?

I don't squeeze, nor do I do any sort of sparge. My process is simple, I brew in a bag. Using my wilser bag and hoist I simply raise the bag out of my wort, and let it gravity drain as I bring my wort to a boil. I don't crush too fine, but I have started mashing for 75 minutes. That gets me...

New Danstar Belle Saison Dry Yeast?

I brewed up the 'Citra Saison' that is in the recipe section, but I used this yeast instead of what the recipe suggested (3711 I think?). It is a beast, ate it down to 1.006. I fermented at 85F. I drank a very young beer (1 week in the bottle) and all I could taste was the citra. My wife...

Frozen Yeast Starter.....aka 'why I shouldn't drink and brew'

I have never frozen the yeast....but I have shocked a few ale yeast into the 48F region. It's fermenting, so maybe it's alright? Looking forward to a follow up!

    Old yeast

I have a local brew store that gives me free wyeast 'past date' yeast. I usually start it out in a 1l starter, build it up a couple of time and then use it. I had one that was 8 months passed the best by date.....ramped it up 3 times and made the best Cali Common I have ever made! Good luck!

What do you think about my system?

That's really a nice start to what will be a fantastic setup! I hope you feed us some pics along the way.......great start!

    Washed yeast, starter question

Well I was hoping to find a quick answer and go to bed....so I waited...then I googled my question and of course found several old threads on the topic. I'm now making another 1L starter to add. Sadly I won't be able to crash out the nasty stuff, but all is well.

unwashed yeast, slurry from prior batch?

From all the posts I've read on this site, an assumed over-pitch is much more friendly to your beer than an under. I'm only 36 batches deep, but I read this site religiously and that is the consensus I've come away with. Also, unless you have a way to count the yeast in that slurry you're not...

unwashed yeast, slurry from prior batch?

One of my first batches I had a plan to get some yeast from a local brewery. I took my quart jar down there, put my name on it and waited. About two days later I got a call that my jar was ready. The very inexperienced brewery assistant said 'just pitch the whole quart'. About 2 weeks later...

    Washed yeast, starter question

I have a yeast I washed on March 28th. I was hoping to do a 2 stage starter, but I ran short of time. Last night I threw the yeast into a 1L starter to wake it up. Normally I would give it 48 hours, cold crash and then re-pitch into 1.5l starter. Well, I don't have time to cold crash so can...

Jaded Brewing Wort Chillers: A Review

I bought a king cobra late last summer after missing out on the jaded brewing giveaway last year (and not a beta-tester!). I chose an IC after months of intense hbt research, going round and round on what kind of chiller I should go with. I ended up choosing an IC because it would work well...

New Wort Chiller!!! - What do you think?

Very cool! That looks like something jaded brewing would be selling.

    Mold in washed yeast

I don't have an answer to your question, I am just wondering how long you had the washed yeast?

Tower of Power LTE Pilotless Elec Control Ignition

Thanks again Craitchky, that was the problem. All working now. DOH!

Tower of Power LTE Pilotless Elec Control Ignition

It's plugged into the stand. Should it be up top, which makes 1000% more sense rather than the lower outlet? If that's the case, I'm an idiot. I didn't think I changed any of that from brew session 1.

Tower of Power LTE Pilotless Elec Control Ignition

I was assembling my breweasy today for just my second brew. When I plugged in my ToP LTE the little gas module (asco red-hat II) on my burner made a loud click (probably the flow valve opening instead of closing). The last time I brewed with my breweasy was several months ago, so I can't be...

    Megapot 1.2 Hole Plug

Thanks Mainiac, I think that is probably about right. I emailed northern brewer soon after posting this, and they got back to me quickly that the hole is apparently 7/8". So I emailed BobbyM at brewhardware for some advice on different options for plugging it.

    Megapot 1.2 Hole Plug

Looking for anyone who has purchased a Megapot 1.2 and decided to plug a hole. Without taking my therm off and measuring I am hoping to find the diameter of the hole, as well as any possible info on where parts were ordered to plug the hole. Thanks.
