    Feedback on 3x Choc. Stout

You could consider adding .75 lb of dark crystal, and subbing roasted barley for the black patent - and then bump up your chocolate and roasted barley to .75 lb too. IBU's may be a little high too, depending on the AA of your nugget. 3/4 oz should give plenty of bitterness. All just my opinion...

    Pasta Roller Grain Mill?

I'm curious too - hopefully someone who's tried it sees this and weighs in...

    Water profile when cold-steeping

OK, thanks for your help. I am still just getting my feet wet with the whole water chemistry stuff, so I appreciate your insight.

    Water profile when cold-steeping

Going to brew a RIS in the next few days. I would add some chalk to my mash to up my Calcium and bicarbonates, but I'm going to try cold-steeping the dark grains and adding them straight to the primary before pitching. My water is low in Ca and HCO3, but I'll only be mashing the lighter...

    How fine is too fine?

This is good news guys, it's puts my mind to rest about off flavours - and hopefully I'll be able to bring up my efficiency. @TexasWine, thanks for the tip, I'll have my whisk handy. @soccerdad, not yet, I'll have to get myself a bigger kettle for Christmas - and something that I can do 5...

    How fine is too fine?

Thanks for the replies. I mash in my brew kettle, do I need to worry about grain flour or bits of husks getting into the boil?

    How fine is too fine?

I've done 3 AG (half)batches so far -all BIAB- but I haven't been getting very good efficiency. Here's my process: Mash 5-6 pounds in 2 gallons at 150-154 for 60 mins. Let drip. Dunk the bag in 2 gallons at 170 for 10 minutes. Let drip. Combine. Boil 60 minutes, yada yada yada, I get 2.5...

Fixing my gravity - a little help?

Thanks for the link. The wort was well-mixed and cooled, I'm afraid. I'm really not sure why my efficiency was so bad. I kept losing a bit of heat during the mash (my lid wasn't fitting on right), down to 148F, but I quickly raised it back up to ~152F. I dunno, but it's not the first time...

What you just did up there appears to be some sort of wizardry. Thank you wilserbrewer (wizardbrewer). A perfect example of how this site is AWESOME! :mug:

Fixing my gravity - a little help?

Not sure what on earth happened last night, but my projected OG of 1.060 ended up at 1.041  But that will be a different post... Right now, I wanna fix it. I pitched at midnight last night, and woke up thinking that if I add some LME I can bring up my OG to where it should be...

    Porter feels thin

Hi all! Long-time reader, first-time poster. So my second AG batch was a simple porter: 2.5 Gallon SG: 1.045 3.25 # MO 1.75 # brown malt Fuggles at 60 and 15 FG: 1.010 It has been in the bottle for about 6 weeks, and while the flavor has really come together nicely, the beer feels...
