American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Like so many others on this thread, I chose Haus Pale Ale as my first AG. As it sits in the fermenter, I wonder why I never did this before. I read so much of this forum beforehand that I hardly needed any software/directions.

    Newb again...

As far as the off smells, they could be my imagination. There has been a strong plasticky phenolic in the last 2 or 3 batches I brewed. I assume these came from either infection or chlorophenols. I switched from iodophor to star san and used Campden tabs in the water. Fingers crossed that its...

    Newb again...

No pics at this time, looks ok, nice tan yeast cake on top and reached high krausen within 24 hours using Safale 04. Past experience has me a bit nervous.

    Newb again...

Hi all. I brewed for several years while living on the east coast, but intervening children and a few undrinkable batches contaminated with god knows what have sidelined me until recently. I have Northern Brewer's Brickwarmer in my primary now. I am getting funny whiffs from the airlock now...

    Removing old Bottle labels

I use Washing Soda from arm & hammer, 30 min to 1hr soak, and the labels peel right off, then the glue wipes off with a cloth (and its dirt cheap).

    How many gallons this year?

I have brewed 20 gallons of beer and 5 of cyser. Only 15 of the beer was drinkable, massive infection in 3rd batch.

How long will airlocks stay filled?

I used water in an s lock for a cider I aged for a year and as long as I topped it up approx. every 3 months it was fine.

    Are Better Bottles really...

I was just looking for some feedback from someone who has used better bottles for fermentors. Are they actually better? Should I just pony up the extra cash and buy glass carboys, or are the PET bottles a viable option?

    Hello from sunny Boston MA

Hi all, I've been brewing for almost 2 yrs now, and am itching for more space so I can start up an all grain setup (no space in the 600 sq ft apartment for it and my daughter's room).
