    So who's brewing this weekend?

Threw together an Oct fest which can sit till Sept. (sure it will) Trying a Kentucky Common brew. Seemed easy enough with basically Flaked Corn & Rye as main ingredients. Didn't use cara or any other sweet tastes. I Just want a crisp old fashioned beer. So far the nose knows and it smells quite...

All "my" homebrew tastes the same!

After realizing the question, if its water, get it tested. Buy a PH test kit or have a service do it or send the water to a lab, await the results then read on how to adjust the imbalance. IF the H2o is the problem.

All "my" homebrew tastes the same!

I started mashing 40 years ago. Rested for a few years then got back with extract recipe kit beers. Cerveza, Ales, Wheat ect, all tasted different & pretty good actually. Recently i got back into researching different Porter recipes, non kit just threw the ingredients together and brewed from...

    Bottle capping question

Gotta take note of certain bottles like New Castle, Corona, Spatten ect as they look the same as standard bottles. However, slight variations on the barrel crimping end ( top) make a big difference when sealing. Throw standard bottles out the universal window as there are sealing variations...

    Extract brewing is FAKE brewing

We used an old type ringer washing machine. Coal regions ya know. But hey, it worked. It was the old style pressure cookers that were sort of dangerous. You see them now & then at auctions. Like right out of Dr Frankensteins Lab.

Reusing 12 oz bottle caps - Yes caps. Pry off caps.

If you really want to reuse the caps this device removes them without crimping or damaging them. I've tried reusing a few caps just for curiosity sake and they held fine and re-crimped and sealed fine. However, I still use new caps. Just saying

small batches and conical fermenters. worth it or just excessive?

I've done a small batch in my conical but it was a pain for all the reasons you mentioned. Plus the Trum never completely settle to the conical bottom. It stayed on the angled cone. Totall pain. I only bottle or keg from conical. Sort of overkill but yeah well. Good luck.

No airlock action after 48 hours? Was yeast DOA?

The only time I ever had a whistling bubbler was when I experimented with a conical. I believe the bubbles were so plentiful because the lid had a 1/2 " rubber sealing gasket & the lid was also held in place by four locking clamps. The C02 had no other place to leak out other then the bubbler...

What I did for beer today

Stared at my new brew still fermenting / clarifying for over 1.5 months. Found a Czech Dark Recipe. Tomorrow will be the day for a taste. Only ingredient I added was Belgium Candi. I am REALLY not sure about what flavors that sugar might infuse. The original recipe didnt call for sugar at all...

Not completely dissolving the liquid malt extract & sugar

Keep us posted. I've made mistakes and would like to know how the brew turns out. It might not be as bad as you think.

Not completely dissolving the liquid malt extract & sugar

Thats a little tricky. Recipe kits make for some very tasty brews. However, "if" the DME wasn't fully disolved it's a matter of how much. 5 days in and bubbling is a good thing as it's def fermenting. A hydrometer reading would help. At least you would see the progress by the falling numbers...
