    Maris Otter question

I read (somewhere that I do not recall at present time) that Maris Otter has enough enzymatic converting ability for itself. So if I wanted to use it as a base malt in a partial mash should I use twice as much Maris Otter compared to say 2-row as a base malt? Thanks in advance.

What I did for beer today

That beautiful bottom layer of unicellular organisms was built up from my first yeast slant. Got to love it when a plan comes together. All thanks to this forum.

My spin on "Smack pack arrived smacked!"

I was unable to "smack" the nutrient pack as the entire pack was pretty puffy. I made my 1 liter started and pitched the yeast. After the bag had been cut open and yeast pitched I was able to break the nutrient pack, which I did, and pitched that into the starter as well. This was approx 12...

My spin on "Smack pack arrived smacked!"

I also received a "smacked" smack pack of pac man yeast (ten times fast?) in the mail today. I was already planning to make starter, but this thread went a long way to ease my mind that there wasn't some sort of yeast genocide going on while it was in transit.... So thank you!!!!

    Partial Mash play around

I have some leftover ingredients, and want to work on a partial mash (practice makes perfect?), so I kind of just threw this together. Don't really know what style I would call it, but I guess that's half the fun. This recipe is calculated for a 2.0 gal batch, partial mash. 1.0 lbs. Light...

    Slanting yeast

I tried this for the first time today, and everything SEEMED to go as planned, but now I am left to wait and pray for ten days.... I did notice that after letting the agar sit (slanted) for 24 hours it seemed a bit watery. How thick should the agar be? It stayed slanted, for the most part, only...
