    Lowering Efficiency and/or OG

High efficiency is not directly correlated with lower quality wort. Plus correlation != causation. There is correlation in some cases under certain conditions and usually at efficiencies above 90%. It could be that you are extracting tannins at 83% but I doubt it. The "wateryness" has way...

nice avatar, I liked the movie.

    Help with recipe

Yes you need a mash tun to partial mash. You can get away with a smaller one, but if your spending the money... why? 8 gallon pot should suffice until you want to do high gravity all grain beers.

first few pulls from a primed keg?

Sure, I've made clear beer sans finnings as well, but that doesn't mean that if he has a haze problem that 40F and gelatin will cure it. Hell he didn't say he had any haze/cloudy problem. I'm simply stating your blanket statements are not necessarily correct. And my nancy books are...

first few pulls from a primed keg?

who said he isn't. Or what if he's making an English ale, or a German ale? My point is 12psi is only a correct pressure if the style calls for it, and the temperature would make 12psi correct as well.

first few pulls from a primed keg?

Server a high gravity Belgian at 12psi(assuming it's not also at 30 some *F) and it will pale in comparison to a beer that is served at the correct carbonation level. Carbonation level is VERY dependent on temperature so just saying 12psi does it is such an oversimplification it is wrong. I...

Subs for Carafa I, II and III

yes I think it is. I have not seen it in different colors like the carafa though, it's also probably by a different malster.

    Help with recipe

yeah you really can't do this extract. Partial mash with the melanoidin and amber with some 2-row and pils for diastic power. I'm seeing about 65ibu's assuming average AA for those varieties. Honestly I think that is significantly low for a IIPA, but still within style. If you want to...

Subs for Carafa I, II and III

I've seen a malt called de-bittered black. That would be an ok sub.(might be basically the same things as I II or III) Otherwise no, there really is not. Chocolate wheat would probably be closer than black patent.

first few pulls from a primed keg?

    2) as close to freezing without freezing. If you can, 30-32 should be good. 4) go to your lhbs and buy the little bottle of gelatin. It's flavorless and binds to things like yeast and pulls them out of solution and to the bottom...

    kiwi lime wine?

ah hell even if he did distill that, he'd end up with like 6oz of 80proof.

Am I expecting too much from a braid?

I'd be willing to bet that SS braid of your is not SS. It looks a lot like the SS lookalike fiber braids that they put on hoses. The ends of your braid really give it away, it looks frayed. SS does not do that. SS also does not collapse under no weight. I bought a hose like that once by...

But java is the devil. I hate it. (not writing, but the actual implementation. I know of no java program that isn't a fat piece of ****.)

    Online Brewing Software

I wish I knew c, I would have done something as well by now. I really like that qbrew is FOSS and has ports for win/mac/lin, but it is lacking in features.

    What's your favorite Brown Ale?

Hobgoblin is a great brown ale. Plus I've heard Orfy might have a clone recipe that may or may not be pretty damn good.

    kiwi lime wine?

fermenting high ABV is not illegal. He never said he was going to distill, so seems fine to me.
