How the heck do I disassemble the Gigawort ball valve?

Success! After much messing around I held the nut up against the collar with a wrench and was able to crank the valve the other way and get it off. Now I just hope I didn't overdo it on the nut side and cause any leaks there. :) Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions!

How the heck do I disassemble the Gigawort ball valve?

Thanks! Wasn't aware that it came apart in that way.

How the heck do I disassemble the Gigawort ball valve?

Thanks! Glad to know I'm not the only one. I'll give pipe dope a try!

How the heck do I disassemble the Gigawort ball valve?

Thanks! Inside the kettle there's just the flat end of the main body but that's a good thought, I might be able to get in there enough to grab the inside of the main body and the lip of the flat end to hold it while I attempt to tighten or loosen the ball valve. I'll give that a shot later and...

How the heck do I disassemble the Gigawort ball valve?

Thanks! I'll give the electrical tape a a shot. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying the ball valve doesn't have two halves, it's one piece so I need to either tighten it into the main body/nipple or alternatively loosen it so I can take another run at it. And if I use a wrench at the...

How the heck do I disassemble the Gigawort ball valve?

I was going to take my Gigawort for its maiden voyage soon but after doing a leak test it's leaking where the main body/nipple screws into the ball valve (hope I'm using the correct terminology; see pic -- arrow pointing to where it's leaking). The problem is I can't screw the ball valve in...

    Double Brew Day

That was going to be my comment as well -- personally I'm more interested in brewing a lot of different things in small batches as opposed to a large volume of one recipe.

    Double Brew Day

Yep, tradeoff is a bit of saving on total elapsed time vs. the more hectic brew day. It was fun to do once but don't think I'll do it again.

    Double Brew Day

Yeah I may not do this again. I staggered stuff so the first batch is in the fermenter and the second has 30 mins left on the boil, but there was a pretty hectic crunch in the middle. :)

    Double Brew Day

Figured I better get this Kölsch and Pale Ale done before Summer's over. We'll see how well I juggle. :) Anyone else squeezing last-minute Summer beers in to make room for Fall and Winter?

BIAB batch #2: Green Tea Pale Ale

For 1-gallon batches I've been using a 3-gallon pot, which works well for the water level relative to the grain in the bag and lets me put space behind the bag for a sous vide. For context I start with 2 gallons of water and that has worked perfectly for me with the boil-off rate for that pot...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

For 1 gallon batches I use the plastic 1.4 gallon Northern Brewer Little Big Mouth Bubblers which have been working great. For 2-3 gallon batches I have a couple of 3 gallon Fermonsters I'm planning on using, and I also have a 4 gallon Anvil Bucket. And I have some bigger stuff (NB Reactor and a...

BIAB batch #2: Green Tea Pale Ale

Brooklyn Brew Shop's Green Tea Pale Ale. Came out very nice! Not a ton of green tea flavor but it's a darn nice pale ale, and the color is fabulous (looks better in person). Loving small batch BIAB! Cheers all!

First BIAB batch came out great!

Next batch I'm going to give my Gigawort its maiden voyage. :)

First BIAB batch came out great!

Yep! I have a 220V induction burner that I've been using, also wanted to future-proof for an all-in-one should I go that route. That 220 burner for one-gallon batches makes things go quick!

First BIAB batch came out great!

Thanks! I need to dial in my carbonation game but I'll get there. :)

First BIAB batch came out great!

I tapped my first BIAB batch ever (an amber ale) and my first all-grain batch in about 20 years last night, and I'm darn pleased with the outcome. Really excited to be back in the game! I learned a ton from so many posts on Homebrew Talk so thank you to everyone for creating such a fantastic...

Does using a sous vide leach heavy metal?

Thanks for the thoughts and info! I did find that Anova has a post on their website about using their sous vide for brewing, and you'd hope they wouldn't post such a thing if there were safety concerns, but stranger things have happened I supposed. And it could be (as you said) the material...

Does using a sous vide leach heavy metal?

I posted this pic of my latest brew session to a Facebook group, and a couple of people chimed in to say the sous vide being in direct contact with the mash water would leach heavy metal into the beer. I know this technique is pretty popular but I'm new to it, and I couldn't find anything about...
