Hello there all you fellow brewers! I've got here my ready to go readiness of readying ready to brew up some nice Christmas ale. The recipe is based off of The Pols "Holiday spiced ale" recipe. I upped the 2-row malt to get a higher gravity as I want this ale to kick you in the ass. I also...

    Question about S-05

This is my 7th batch and my 4th AG batch and I've previously been using White Labs liquid yeast, but I decided I wanted to try out some dry yeast like I did on my first two batches, simply because they had a quick hearty fermentation. I'll probably rehydrate it just because better safe than...

    Question about S-05

It says on the package pitch directly into wort, does this mean I do not need to rehydrate... that cant be right?

1 year old wort, use it or dump it?

The only thing I see against it having botulism, is that the wort was packaged in the presence of oxygen. Although I am not an expert on the subject and its entirely possible that it could be infected. Personally, I would not use it.

52 qt. cooler too big for 7 lb. of grain?

I would throw some water in there, hot of course in the amount you would use to strike 7 lbs of grain, i usually go 1.25qt/pound for infusion. then check it back in an hour and see how much heat was lost, which i doubt will be more than a degree or 2

McGee Adventures in Brewing 2 : Electric Boogaloo

First runnings were 1.100 SG LOL!! I thought the new grain bill might put me on the high end, not that much though! Second runnings of the sparge water went down to 1.020 but I had already collected about 7.5 gallons so I started up the boil.

McGee Adventures in Brewing 2 : Electric Boogaloo

Hmmm. Well... woke up today to check the starter and I only see a small amount of bubbles and activity on the surface of the starter... hopefully the yeast is doing well or will kick up later on... at least there is SOME activity so I know the yeast is viable.

McGee Adventures in Brewing 2 : Electric Boogaloo

Had my starter going at about 230 and I've seen a noticable increase in the amount of yeast at the bottom of the jug, still no top level active fermentation going on, although that should change within the next couple hours.

    "Nonic" pint glasses!

Hey, yeah I've been doing some searching online and I have yet to find a reputable "nonic" style pint glass for a reasonable price that isn't halfway around the world and have the shipping cost more than the glasses themselves. Does anyone know of a good website to find these style pint glasses.

McGee Adventures in Brewing 2 : Electric Boogaloo

It's a 5 gallon batch, I thought the same thing when I was buying the malt, but I had already crushed it so I might just use half... the high grain bill is basically to get my OG high, I'm looking for a real big beer this time for the holidays and I have been playing around with recipes for a...
