    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Picked up a 1980 NOS little chief and smoked some pork shoulder. Had to finish on grill. Going to be upgrading the little chief to put out some more heat.

How to hang immersion chiller in a kettle so it doesn't rest on anything?

For many years, I had a piece of perforated stainless that I had bent to make a "tent" above my element for my immersion chiller. I've eliminated it and haven't looked back. Just pop your chiller on the element, no sweat.

Question on 2 roller grain mills

I am a many-year owner of a Cereal Killer, 12 batches a year. Early on in my ownership, I used my air compressor to clean out the mill. The CK uses "sealed" bearings on the rollers. They are of middling quality (at least from a bike mechanic point of view) and can be contaminated with grain...

has anyone here had a co2 tank failure?

Do you get it hydro tested every 5 years? My CO2 guy tells me that failures are seldom catastrophic. Usually a pinhole leak.

How much yeast do you REALLY need?

I pitch what I have - packet of dry or pouch of liquid. I never make starters. I'm happy with my beer.

    Brew days too long!

Didn't read intervening posts, but I often mash at one time and boil later. Sometimes overnight. Never more than 13 hours later though.

    Gushers. Causes?

This happens to me when I bottle in the winter (stored in 50 degree basement) and open in the summer (55-60 degree basement). The difference in storage conditions changes how much co2 is happily in solution.

    What are you drinking now?

    Fresh from VT

Quick way to clean beer lines without CO2/Hand Pump/Recirc Pump?

I know it doesn't answer your immediate problem, but I like the irrigation pump version. Simple, hands off.

So i stopped taking gravity measurements

I keep breaking the tool. In 13 years of brewing I almost never have taken OG; sometimes take FG after I buy a new device and before I break it again. Currently in a non-measurment period.

Broke Roots While Trying to Move Plant

You'll probably also get hops in the location you're moving them from - they propogate quickly.

Broke Roots While Trying to Move Plant

You cannot kill hops. I'm going to predict you'd get 4 plants out of that. Plant however many you actually want and see what happens.

    Fermentation chamber heating?

I like fermwrap around fermenter, then insulated. Then I'm not wasting electricity by heating the whole freezer.

Can i keep starsan in a covered fermentation bucket?

I keep mine in a decommissioned fermentation bucket. No issues so far. It's not good for plastic long-term, but...

Do you find beer brewing too complex?

As with any forum, the people here are nerds of this discipline. We will endlessly debate details that may have no discernable affect on outcome because we're nerds. I read a lot of threads on here, but when it comes to actually brewing, my goal is to make my process as simple and quick as...

    Pale ale with wlp002?

It is definitely a different yeast, but I'm not convinced you'd notice much of a difference. Not like you would if you used a Belgian yeast or a wheat beer yeast. Many people prefer British yeasts like 002 for pale ales these days.

    Alternative to brew belt?

Yep, my ebay reptile tank heating mat worked really well. Wrap with some reflective pipe insulation and you're not even using much power. Not sure why it died. China! [emoji37]

    Alternative to brew belt?

I got a fermwrap but it was a dud. No heat, even though it was getting 120 at the connectors. Hoping #2 works.

Beer backed up in gas line... what to do?

This is definitely a tough lesson I have had to learn as a new kegger. I always have to think about my 3 keg setup as a system all at the same pressure, all interconnected. If I'm going to change anything with one keg, I have to shut off supply to the others. It's mostly automatic now, though...
