Temp controller just for temp monitoring

@doug293cz I've got this all in a cart, and I've just got a few questions: -Main power switch: I've grabbed an illuminated SW16. The way this is designed, will that work? My guess is it would illuminate when the switch is turned, but what I don't know is will the element just have power or will...

NEW Product Announcement - Spike Solo Panel

I'm literally shopping for panels this very second. Good timing.

Temp controller just for temp monitoring

Thanks @doug293cz I’ll put all this stuff in a cart and see where it lands. Do you have any sense if sourcing it all from Auber would be much less than their kit? Or alternate sources that make it more economical?

Temp controller just for temp monitoring

Switching from propane to electric. Am handy, I've done quite a bit of electronics but I have to have a recipe to follow (red wire connects, here and here), I am not a schematic reader. I'd build the panel, but don't have a sense of how much less you could build it for rather than buying...

Temp controller just for temp monitoring

Yeah, this is the conclusion I came to this morning. I realized I was trying to build a weak little control for temp monitoring and pump switch . . .so . . . I'm just going to bite the bullet and get a full controller, not sure whether I'll build or buy and I'll use either the Brewcommander or...

Temp controller just for temp monitoring

Hello, I'm trying to do basic temp monitoring with one probe, and have a high and low alarm for a few degrees outside of a mash temp. I was looking at all the thermometers on Amazon and they all seem to be meat/bbq, and come with proprietary probes. I'm thinking about using a simple PID with K...

    Beginner equipment setup

It’s real easy in brewing to get caught up in whirlwind of gear. Think of it less like you’re in an industrial lab, and more like you are in the kitchen making oatmeal. How much do you want to make, and how often? That’ll guide a lot of the other decisions. That, cold side temperature control...

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

I’ve been back and forth with Blichmann a couple more times. This was like pulling teeth, but finally got: “The threads are 1/2 inch NPT both male and female.” Since all their responses have either been wrong or almost resistant(?), I don’t even trust that answer. Did you ever check one of the...

    Crap kids say

When I gave my boys the birds and bees talk, they were maybe 5 and 7. I kept it pretty straight forward, and didn't pull any punches. It was mostly anatomical, how babies are made kinda stuff. The older one took it all in no problem. The younger one is real clever and you could just see his...

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

I’m guessing you may be right about the female BSPP since it’s clearly designed as a bulkhead and the valve has the sealing Oring. It’s odd they sell the male bulkhead insert separately and don’t mention BPSS thread, and the website lists the valve as 1/2” NPT although they don’t indicate...

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

In my application, I would be mounting the male side of the valve to my kettle wall female coupling. So, most of the time I would actually be using it in “reverse mode”. Underletting mash would be a case where I would use it in the other direction. Also, as my set up is basically @Bobby_M...

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

Believe me, I was kinda dumbfounded by the response. I even asked if they could explain to me why it wouldn't work in both directions. They responded "It will not work because of how the seals and the valve are set up. There wouldn't be a way to seal it up against the kettle wall plus the...

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

Without seeing one in hand, and going by videos is looks like when you get to “fully open” it’s the resistance of the O-rings that stops it from coming out on the non-pump version. If the threads are completely disengaged at that point then the first thread would act as a sort of stop for the...

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

Excellent, thanks much. So on the pump version, you have to remove that clip to get the knob out to clean? And on the other valve, what purpose does the clip serve? Pressure/resistance? I’ll go ahead and get a couple and see if they look any different. If they don’t have the ridge, I’ll be...

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

I’m just about to buy a couple of these for my ebiab, but am not following what you are saying here. I guess without having seen one, not sure of this safety clip. Could you show a pic of what you are talking about? Do you think they could be modified to work? Also, do you know if these work...

    Lagering in mini fridge?

Look on FB marketplace or Craigslist and find a branded commercial minifridge, like Rockstar or Monster drinks or whatever. They are more robust, and have the compressor and guts mounted up on top. The floor is stainless and there's tons of room. I had a 5 gallon bucket with airlock in mine.
