Co-planting with hops for pest control

I'm not sure I could get away with planting beans and squash with the homeowners restrictions in my neighborhood, but that's a neat twist on the "three sisters" idea. Otherwise, I'd go full bore permaculture on my yard if they'd let me. The only reason I'm getting away with hops now is because...

    Speidel or Better Bottle?

They're essentially selling olive oil futsi with a hole drilled in the top for a heck of a mark up. Here is an example of another store selling the same thing (essentially) for $50 less http://thevintnervault.com/product/2881/Fusti-30-liter.html At the price DWB is charging, you can buy a...

    S'mores Stout?

I made an all grain version of a smore stout. Some things you want to consider... Carabrown is going to give you more graham cracker flavor than oats. I use actual graham crackers in the mash. Toast your oats for something closer to the real thing. You need a bit of smoke somewhere for that...

    Peristaltic pump and/or tubing

Hey all. I'm looking for a peristaltic pump and the tubing to go with it. I don't have a particular brand in mind. I just need something that can handle boiling liquids and 1/2" ID food-safe tubing (#82 or #88 is fine). Needs to be able to achieve a minimum flow rate of 1 gpm. If you have...

Many thanks, sir. This will help greatly with design.

 Who says you need to sterilize anything in order to brew? The only time sterilization is needed in brewing is if you're yeast harvesting or culturing. Edit : That's why this forum is Equipment/Sanitation and not Equipment/Sterilization

    List of PJ Electrical Diagrams

Um, yeah. Who do you think would be writing or at least co-authoring it?

    List of PJ Electrical Diagrams

Have you considered taking the content you've provided here, doing some kind of write up to go with it, and publishing it as an e-book? Once you do that, you could upload it to archive.org and it would be preserved forever. No one would have to worry about who is hosting what.

    Immersion circulators for mashing

Right. Still not useful at all for decoction. Decoction involves pulling off a portion of mash and boiling it. This is done not just to heat the mash, but to aid in the formation of melanoidins. In cooking speak, you're making a Maillard reaction. It's not going to happen sub-boil. You...

    Immersion circulators for mashing

I don't see how this would help decoction at all, but an immersion circulator is basically a HERMS system

Brew Stand Concept: How's it look?

    1. How are you planning to chill? 2. Where are you putting your e-kettle controls? The only thing I'd say is you might want to consider having the kettle a bit higher. Not that it won't work as is, but have it high enough so you can drain the kettle into something if needs be. It'll also help...

    better bottles

Actually, the fact it says "alkaline" would mean it's closer to lye or potash unless they're completely lying about what it is. They also list BrewVint Cleanitizer, which clearly states it's a oxygen based cleaner. That would be your Oxiclean/PBW knockoff. I doubt that they'd have two...

Not to hijack, but I've done some searching on this product and can't get a clear answer. What exactly is this stuff?

New way to control Pellet Hop gunk!

It's not mine. I just saw that pic somewhere around here. Can't remember who has this setup, but I believe they were talking about pressurized fermentation in the conical. They use CO2 to push the beer out the bottom and through the filter.

    Sanitizing with fire

I'm sure Starsan is safer. I was just commenting on actual effectiveness. How would it crack the carboy unless you rapidly cooled the carboy after flaming it?

    Sanitizing with fire

So, a friend sent me this jokingly stating this is how we should sanitize glass carboys and kegs from now on... It struck me that in addition to looking cool, this should be a valid way to sanitize and purge oxygen from the chamber. Other than it being possibly dangerous to do indoors...
