    Tap A Draft Cooler?

There are some bags here: https://sites.google.com/site/sturmanbgllc/tap-a-draft/purchase Personally, I found someone on craigslist who was selling their soft cooler, and I cut a hole in it for the tap. Works great.

What to spend gift card on?

I recommend building a wort chiller if you're at least a little handy. Cost me about $30. Save your gift card for items that you can only get at homebrew stores, e.g. ingredients

    Scratches in the fermenter bucket

If you get a better bottle, i would recommend six gallons.

    Sparge question BIAB

I did my first BIAB today. Mashed out at 170 deg/F for 10 minutes. I essentially followed the plan outlined here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f36/biab-brewing-pics-233289/ Got about 75% efficiency the first time, and I love the process. I'm definitely doing it again this way. I also crushed...

    Party pig vs mini-keg

I used a Tap a Draft setup similar to this one: I actually purchased two coors light draft systems (1.5 gallons), which costs about $15 each. You will need to find a way to get through the beer (e.g. drink it all, or invite friends over). I converted the tap to use with my paintball tank. I...

    Easy BIAB 1st time recipe?

I know that you already did your first recipe, but others searching for an easy first time BIAB recipe, I suggest a Cream Ale from Northern Brewer: http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/recipe-kits/all-grain-kits/all-grain-ale-kits/cream-ale-all-grain-kit.html. Costs about $18. 8 pounds of grain...

    My first BIAB experience

I read through the biabrewer site (and joined) and calculated my brewhouse efficiency for this batch to be 74.29%. I didn't realize that if you modified the loss to trub you also need to modify the efficiency. I also learned a lot on how to set up my equipment profile. A few more batches and I...

    My first BIAB experience

I mashed out for 10 minutes at 170 deg/F. It's good to hear that it's not a big deal if my temp drops 5 degrees. I think that next time I will turn on the burner as needed to maintain my mash temp to see how that goes. However, it may be more trouble than it's worth. I ended up with 4...

    My first BIAB experience

I thought about adding water to reach the volume I was after, but I'm going to try this recipe again with my corrections so I can taste the difference. I think it's helpful if I learn from my mistakes. Thanks for the info for what I should expect.

    My first BIAB experience

I did a simple 5 gallon Cream Ale today for my first BIAB adventure. 7 lbs Pale Ale 2 Row 12 oz Honey Malt 4 oz Biscuit Malt 1 oz Cluster (60 minutes) I tightly wrapped my aluminum pot with two blankets when I hit my mash temperature of 152 degrees F. However, when I returned, it...

Extract or go go full tilt

I was in the same boat as you. I decided to purchase a 60 quart pot with a lid and strainer for $60 ( aluminum). Then I did a full boil extract. Now I'm doing BIAB and I'm itching to do a 10 gallon batch.

Any homebrewers here from the Madison, WI area??

I live on the southwest side of Madison, near Verona and Fitchburg. I've been brewing extract on and off, but mostly off, for about four years. Today is my third batch this month and I plan on doing a fourth on Sunday. I am now officially addicted.

Any homebrewers here from the Madison, WI area??

Another Madison brewer here, I'm doing my first AG today. I also joined the grain card club at the Wine and Hop Shop, $70 for 50 lbs.

    60 qt pot on ebay

I went with the pot from eBay because I wanted the strainer and lid for a reasonable price. However, if you're just looking for a pot with a lid, at $100, SS is a good bargain

    Ale Fermentation Temps

I use a Swamp Cooler: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/swamp-cooler-199965/ If you already have a large cooler sitting around, fill it with water and ice (freeze some plastic water bottles). Replace the bottles periodically (e.g. ever 6-12 hours). Check out the link for more details.

why do friends think homebrew is FREE?

Never ask your friends for money when they stop over for a brew. I agree with the others, ask your friends to bring something over that you can eat with the beer. Ask your friends to help you out the next time you brew beer. I asked a friend to help me brew, now he's hooked. Now we can share...

    Poor BIAB Extraction Efficiency

+1 on the downside. But here is the link to Deathbrewer's process: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/easy-stovetop-all-grain-brewing-pics-90132/ Another link to check out: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f36/biab-brewing-pics-233289/

    New brewer question

I recommend posting the recipe and either myself (when I have time) or another person can put it into beersmith and convert it for you. You will end up using less hops when doing a full boil extract, assuming your recipe is designed for partial boil which most extract recipes are this way...
