    Reusing blow off tube?

no problem, the cloudiness is a deposit left there by the oxyclean, I'm pretty sure you can remove those deposits by running some distilled white vinegar through the hose. Either way, it wont hurt to keep using it as a blowoff tube

Recent batch tastes bad compared to previous attempt

did you keep the fermentation temp the same? what was it? consider that fermentation temperatures can greatly affect the flavor of your beer, maybe it fermented 5 degrees warmer? Ed's pale ale recipe calls for Nottingham right? Nottingham can put out some funky esters at higher temperatures.

    Another first AG'er

congrats! I'm glad that you had a good first all grain experience. Just like you I cannot believe how easy it was. Though the fact you hit 70% on you're first is great. I hit 60 on my first and was very pleased. Again congrats, and I hope you enjoy this new aspect of your hobby.

    Czech Lager

I agree, give it 3 days. every lager that i've not made a starter for has taken several days to start, especially with the cesky budovice (budvar) yeast. which yeast did you pitch?

    lagering questions

after chilling the wort, put it in your fermentation chamber till its at the temp you want, pitch and wait. Primary fermentation of a lager can take 3-5 days to show signs of activity and will not be violent like an ale fermentation will be. make sure you pitch an adequate amount of yeast. I...

    grain roasting?

I'm planning on brewing a Vienna/Centennial SMaSH this weekend, and I want to roast some of the malt to get some color in my brew. I don't have a grain mill, and usually crush my grain at my LHBS when I buy it. My question is, can I roast crushed grain or am I better off roasting it whole and...

    Pomegranate Cider recipe?

I would make apple cider (or edwort's apfelwein), and then once it's fermented completely rack to secondary, add potassium sorbate so that any new sugars aren't fermented, then add pomegranate juice to taste.

    hey

mr. beer kits make pretty substandard beer, you will be MUCH happier with the beer you brew if you make a minimal investment in some real equipment. a partial mash kit from your local home brew shop is your best bet to make some great beer.

    Party beer

+1 on the cream ale suggestion, i've made several batches for parties, and the usual first taste reaction is "wow this is good! you made this?"... never a dissapointment.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

I brewed this as my first AG beer. my efficiency was terrible so I added DME to raise the OG into line with Ed's recipe. everything else went according to plan. Had my first pint of it today, and wow... this one is not going to last long.

    Lager troubles

Using a Budvar yeast (which is very similar to the urquell yeast) I have had fermentations take up to 4 days to start. In 5 different batches of the same beer, the fastest it has started is 2 days. I think next time maybe 2 packages of yeast, or a starter is necessary for a fast start.
