    SA Noble Pils

I had this for the first time this past weekend at (of all places) an Applebee's. I've gone back since. some 20 years ago I was in Bavaria for an extended period. This is the same (and as good as) the pils I would get there. I'm not all that high on SA in general, but they have outdone...

Brew day postponed - starter question

How long will it last in the fridge? I made a starter on Saturday, brewed Sunday, pitched Monday and there was absolutely no activity at all by Wednesday afternoon. I've never ever waited this long. I panicked, got more yeast and made another starter to repitch. Wouldn't you know it but...

    B-Brite and mineral deposits

I was able to fix this The calcification was quite strong with mm-sized crystals attached all over to around 10% of the inside of the carboy. Why this happened I don't know. I tried leaching them out with hot water - no luck. Same for b-brite and also with bleach (not at the same time...

When To Mill Grain Prior To Brewing?

So it was a bit more than a few quality zen moments getting in touch with your inner grain. It seems that most people jump to the drill method pretty quickly - is it because it just takes too freaking long to go through 10 lbs of grain?

When To Mill Grain Prior To Brewing?

For those of you who do the job while the water is heating up, are you cranking by hand or are you motorized?

What's your local going price for 50lbs of 2 row?

Its about $60 for a 50-lb bag of Briess at my lhbs. I'm getting skewered, but I'm stuck unless I grow my own.

Does freezing a beer affect head retention?

I'd better put a thermometer in the garage then. I thought beer would stay liquid well below 32F because it has alcohol in solution but I don't know where the onset of phase change is. It was 21F here this morning. I had left a bottle of Corona in the garage on the floor as an indicator -...

Does freezing a beer affect head retention?

I've been worried about the same thing because I've been keeping mine out in the garage. What is the freezing point of beer?

Don't put a couch on your porch in Boulder

Having lived there, this law made a big difference in keeping sections of the old town from burning down after CU/CSU football game every year. Seems like a weird law, but I guess you just gotta be there

    B-Brite and mineral deposits

I left a carboy sitting with a not-too-strong solution of B-Brite in it for a couple of weeks. I just emptied it and have noticed that there is some calcification of something in the carboy that is pretty hard and stuck to the glass such that the deposits (which look like little crystals) don't...

Beer backed up into Secondary Regulator

If you connect your gas to your beer-out and pressurize the keg (with all the gurgling) this can happen - I've done it before. There may have been a few other steps afterward, like dropping the pressure before I straightened it out or switching off the gas or something like that, but connecting...

First All Grain batch after action report

Mike -I don't think that measuring your runnings is necessary to calculate efficiency. You boil all that down anyway. Measuring your OG into the primary will tell you what your efficiency is. - Mark

Freezer conversion - coils in shelves???

justbrewit - I thought of doing this but I didn't want to start cutting up the tubes in my kegs or worry about their orientation

Freezer conversion - coils in shelves???

Bobby - looks good - thats exactly what I'll shoot for. Knowing that it's been done before makes it a lot easier.

Freezer conversion - coils in shelves???

I think this is the winner! I'll try this - I don't have much to lose. If it breaks, I'll wind up paying my trash company $60 and be looking for a used fridge. No big deal Thanks! - Mark

Freezer conversion - coils in shelves???

I have an old upright freezer that works but has been unused since I moved in the house 4 years ago. I was planning on using it for a keezer, but started looking into getting it ready and noticed that the cooling happens in the shelves through a cooling line snaking through each shelf and from...
