Pacman progress my first bottle harvest

I started this 6 days ago from a 22oz bomber of Rogue Mom Hefeweizen. I left the dregs of the Hefeweizen in the bottle and added about 12oz of 1.020 wort shot O2 down the bottle neck then shook. An hour or so later added more O2. A few hours later it started fissing and showing signs of life...

    Ocassional clove taste

Clove is a function of many wheat style yeast strains especially in the American styles. Many wheat yeast strains make more clove at the cooler temperatures towards 60-F and more banana towards 70-F.

    Pacman yeast is awesome!

Seems to be working! I started with about 16oz of 1.020 wort in a Rogue Mom Hefeweizen bottle on Friday, cold crashed Saturday night then stepped it up to a quart of 1.030 this morning. For both steps I filled the bottle headspace with O2 and shook. I added more O2 a couple times before it...

    making a starter without DME

Last time I needed a starter but had no DME I just borrowed enough LME from the recipe kit to make 1.5 L of 1.040 wort. I pitched the whole starter without decanting and adjusted my boil volume so final volume to accounted for the starter.

    Pacman yeast is awesome!

Should I have any trouble harvesting Pacman from a single 22-oz Rogue Mom Hefeweizen? I have a Mom Hefe bottle which lists Pacman as the yeast but I am a bit amazed that Pacman is so versatile that it is used for stouts, IPA, wheat beer, and more... REALLY??? Wow seems like the perfect house...

First time pitching a yeast starter

I don't know if it is right, wrong, or pointless, but after pitching I can never resist giving my carboy a good shake just to mix it up a bit.

First Batch This Weekend and Have Some Questions

When your wort is cooling stir it up as fast as you can like a whirlpool. Then when it is done spinning all the trub and hops will be in conical pile in the center of your pot. Autosiphon from the edge and you will leave all that gunk behind.

Brooklyn Brew Shop Everyday IPA Kit Tips

That IPA is a nice brew! If you start making larger batches you will find that 1-gallon fermenter is great for making large starters.

When to use a blow off tube?

Even though it hasn't often been necessary in my 6.5 Gallon carboy I am using a blowoff tube every time. My tube is not a exact fit, so I seal the top by wrapping it up with cling-wrap soaked in sanitizer then secured tightly with tape. I install an air-lock when it is racked to secondary.

Wyeast or White Labs? New to liquid yeast

I prefer Wyeast even if only for how the swelling of the bag confirms viability.
