    Kölsch Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch

I've read a lot of threads that discuss corny fermenters. How do you provide your airlock/blowoff? After fermenting, how do you transfer to serving keg?

    Kölsch Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch

This looks like a great summer brew! This will be my first cold crash. Should I: 1. Ask swmbo if I can take over the kitchen fridge for a few days to cold crash a carboy?, or 2. Ferment in a corny, or rack to a corny as a secondary and then cold crash the corny in my kegerator?

Best 35 bucks I have spent on craft beer!

Congrats, you know times are tough when a liquor store in Wisconsin is going out of business

    My brew build

It really wasnt bad this winter - the coldest I've brewed was 23 degrees. I see by your address the opposite could be a problem in the summer. Gotta admire someone that brews in that heat.

    My brew build

Its hard to see, but the tubing from the tun goes to a pump and then up to the kettle. Not hard to stir the mash - the opening between the 2 kettles and between the front and back top horizontal supports of the rig is about the same size as the top of the tun - so I can reach down between the...

    My brew build

I did the same thing. You'll have a great rig when you're done. Here's mine:

Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

Thought I had a case of no fermentation. No airlock activity for 2 days. Opened lid and found krausen. Closed lid and waited 4 more days with no airlock activity. Took a hydrometer reading and all is well. I noticed a tear in the rubber washer in the lid of the plastic fermenter - replaced the...

    The Brew Wagon

My new brew rig - The Brew Wagon. Steel shelving on casters with 2 chopped SQ-14's, cooler MLT, March pump, and some camlock disconnects. Worked great in its first brew.

    keg connection.com

Awesome service. I got the keg kit and fridge. The fridge was shipped through a different supplier that was not nearly as timely as the cornies, tank, etc from keg connections. They called the fridge supplier and I got it in 2 days. Todd also talked me through the installation over the phone.

How to have backup keg ready?

I have the same setup. I kegged a stout on 12/27 which is about gone. I kegged a second batch 2 days ago, but I'd like to get another batch ready to replace the stout when it goes dry. I'm a newbie myself and look forward to some expert advice on this also. it seems that the 3rd batch would...

    Which fittings?

Thanks for the comments - I ordered a bunch of stuff from bargain fittings this morning - but they are out of stock on 2 of the cam lock fittings. I'll see if Proflow or Austin has them.

    Which fittings?

Thanks - your advice makes so much sense. I was too focused on getting this rig done. And I'm sitting here with half a keg of stout and another 5 gallons of winter ale ready to be kegged. I probably have a 6 week supply of homebrew. I'll take my time and get it right.

    Which fittings?

I started building my new brew rig last weekend. I got burners, pump, a couple of valves. Now I need a few fittings, some tubing and disconnects. I'm looking at either McMaster brass disconnects or Bargain Fittings Camlocks. I've read a lot of threads where both are recommended. One...

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

I kegged my first batch (oatmeal stout) yesterday - before I read this thread. I used instructions for force carbonating that came with my kegerator. I racked the beer and put it the kegerator overnight. Then I hit it with 30lbs, took off the gas and rolled it for 10 minutes. Let it sit a few...

    2 tier brew rig

After seeing all the great brew rigs here, I thought I would attempt to build one. I have only brewed 2 all grain batches, so my skills and equipment are minimal. I started with a shelving unit from Menards, 10 gallon brew kettle, 5 gallon HLT, and 10 gallon cooler MLT. I think I...

    Stout - bottle or keg?

Thanks! - I'll keep it in the fermenter until I get everything ready - hopefully next weekend

    Stout - bottle or keg?

I have a stout in the fermenter and a kegerator coming in a few days. I dont want to get a new faucet and nitrogen, etc just for this stout. Should I keg the stout using CO2 and standard faucets, or bottle it?

1st all grain, high og, low volume

I would have had enough in the boil if I would have lautered all the sparge water. I read in "How to Brew" that you should stop lautering when runoff falls below 1.008. I did and there was still maybe .5 gallons or more in the tun. I had 6.11 gallons in the kettle at that point, which I...
